The weather was less than ideal but, with my next few weekends booked solid, I decided to hunt. I checked the weather radar and waited for a slight break in the rain to head over to my favorite farm. About 5 inches down, just into some still frozen ground, I found my first SLQ. At first glance in the hole all I could see was perfectly smooth silver and I was thinking "not a coin." I'm glad I was wrong! I'm thrilled to finally tease some old silver from this spot....I know the house was there at least as early as 1873. I believe the coin is the 1916 -17 variety due to the eagle placement. What a great way to start off the spring hunting season! ;D

I think I have this Murphy's Law thing going with the worse the weather is, the better the coins I dig. :icon_scratch:

HH and thanks for looking,
Michiganne

yep, yer right 1916 - 17 series 3 stars missing below eagle. Nice find, too bad it's almost a slider. Now go warm up and dry out, oh, and don't forget to take your muddy boots off........NGE

nice find michiganne and luck on future hunts. Lee
I wanted to go out but just raining too hard

No breaks in the weather here so far.
Nice quarter.
Dan

nice find, way to brave the nasty weather. I was just grumbling as I was looking at the weather bug, the nice weather is not getting here soon enough. love the SLQ, HH

Nice one M, and very elusive; congrats on the silver! Looks like a good spot to spend hours on end! FFD

nice silver. I want to get out also but it is raining here in OH also maybe next week end....Matt

Nice! I was trying to get out myself today. Diligently watching the radar. Thought I might slip out between the rain storms. Never happened. I did get out yesterday for a short hunt between storms. Found a couple of license plates, a 59 and a 66 in good shape (and a old brass brass buckle at this place that dates in the 1850's ). "Water, winter wonderland" yeah right! Well the ground should still be super saturated by next weekend, best time to hunt.

Congrats on the SLQ!

Yes yours a type one, my one and only SLQ is type two with the three stars below
the eagle and is dateless and just as worn as yours. Here's hoping that our
next one's have dates and detail.

Good luck,
HH.

Thanks everyone.......you help keep me inspired to keep going out. :icon_sunny:

Congrats on that good looking SLQ Anne

Awesome score on the SLQ Anne  the first SLQ that I got was a series 1 too, I went many years never finding one
and since then I've multiples each year since, hopefully you'll have the same luck. I still haven't found another series 1.

Nice coin!! I have yet to find one. My friend found one that I missed in a sidewalk construction site and boy was that disappointing. :-\

Wolverine.

Congrats on finding, in my opinion, the coolest coin the u.s. ever made. So much detail on such a small surface. Cool coin. Could be the rare 1916 boobie stickin out one. Those are worth some big bucks. Congrats again, Jim

Thats awesome!!!!!!!!! I am so happy to see you make a great silver find! I found the twin to that coin last year and just after I really made some super finds so I hope this is a sign that its your turn to really kick butt! I wish it was warm enough to thaw out the ground here but its gonna be at least 3 more weeks so keep me drooling and get back out there.
