Well ain't that just keen! :BangHead:
I'm sure they'll make a bunch of money, especially from the tourists that come down, don't know you'll need a permit.
We'll all get to get harassed for holding a metal detector, God forbid you find something and they find out. The paperwork and will there be the threat of jail? Surely they can heap on some other regulations?
Oh happy day, is there some way we can maybe all assists them to milk money from the public and give them something to do?

Or am I just reading this wrong? :icon_scratch:

just another way to control people

Collier County Ranger told me today that the county is in the process of making a permit for people who use MD's

Thats BS!...Sounds like you ran into some A-Hole Ranger. I have numerous family members that works for Collier County in some shape or form. Im going to contact them tonight, because if that were true, i would have heard something about it by now.

Where you on a Public Beach? Private Beach? Wetlands? Where did he say this to you?

The ranger that told me this is a good Ranger.

Is it a permit to detect the beach? Its illegal to pick a certain group out and charge them to enjoy themselves on the beach without charging others who enjoy activities on the beach. Like Frisbie or volley ball players saying that they need a permit to do that...it is a civil lawsuit. Ask any civil lawyer and he will say you have a case.

Tell that to the guys in Massachusetts.

I am going to check in to it.

Up here in NJ they just passed no smoking on Jersey beaches. I expect them to have the smoking police running around issuing tickets. Here summer time is a cash grab off tourists with the number one cash cow parking tickets along with parking meters. The Democrat State Senator who wrote the smoking bill never answered my email about looking into how the beaches get trashed. So don't give these Democrat politicians any ideas up here about MDing. In most towns we already have to buy a beach tag just to set foot onto the beach.

Looks like the poison that started out in Mass is spreading rapidly!
What do these guys do all hang out together deciding on laws to discriminate against certain groups!!!???
Fight it guys, fight it! You don't want them to start the process to totally ban detecting later.
You give them an inch and the whole thing is gone!!!!

It didnt start in mass. It's been around for many a year.

I agree..

Early 90's they banned it on Nantasket Bch.,Mass. Their excuse now is they are just trying to tie up all the lose ends and coordinate the laws, our DCR parks have a total ban so the ranger told me, it was allowed on beaches only, and now if a few people hadn't been paying attention it would have been banned on beaches too! Just coordinating it my foot!

Whats next .... catch and release? I cant think of a thing thats looked upon negatively that doesnt require a permit or is taxed to death.

Dew

Well I certainly don't like being singled out and discriminated for my hobby. :protest:

If the excuse is about holes being dug......
I say, all them kids building them sand castles, better be displaying their permits, too! :evil5:

Thats right!

It's an obamanation!

Why would you pay 20 or 40- dollars a year when you can hire an attorney for 5000 retainer plus 350- an hour to litigate for years ( and still be subject to fine for not having a permit). Permits are not the ideal situation but way better than all out bans, down state New York has had permits for at least 13 years , by having a permit system it gives the metal detecting community a bargaining chip in legislation of local ordinances, once they get those funds you can be sure they won't have an all out ban, because they don't want to give up the revenue! If they pass that law in MA they'll never unwrite it!
