Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I detected an inactive farm field for a few hours over the course of yesterday and today, and found some potential colonial items (along with about five pounds of rusty iron pieces). Yesterday, I dug a small button with an intact shank, and a nice one-inch flat button with a spun back and no markings, which I think dates to the late 1700's. I also dug another heartbreaking copper halfpenny with no detail whatsoever, and what I think may be a knee or breeches buckle (any opinions would be appreciated). Today I dug two round balls, one is .50 caliber and the other is .64 caliber, I think. I also dug my third key ever, though this one’s barrel is more intricate than my prior ones, perhaps as it is older. I also dug some small white pieces of rectangular scrap metal with no markings. Could these be made of lead given the white color? What would these be for or from? The thin flower shaped piece in the lower right corner I actually dug about a month ago. There are no markings on it, and it does not look like it would be part of a tool or tractor. Any thoughts? Thanks for looking and happy hunting. Here comes the sun!
