Got out Sunday with Louis and we hit a spot that has ties to the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Was there about 10 minutes when I found this 1773 Colonial Virginia Halfpenny.
It rang out loud and clear at about 6 inches and was a welcome find. I expect it was lost there by one of the several families that lived on this property over the past 250 years.(Haven't finished cleaning, so will post more pics when I'm done).
Afterwards Louis and I also got into a bottle pit and dug several late 1800s and early 1900s bottles and an ink. Will post some pics of them once I've finished cleaning them. I also believe I found me a patch of poison ivy roots in addition:X HH and good luck at DIV.....I know I can't wait:)

Thanks my friend. I was just surprised to find it so early in my hunt but than again, when I think about it, many times the best finds are at the very beginning or the very end of a hunt...

Quite true. :)

That looks EXACTLY like the bottle pit I am digging. Have you found anything else besides bottles yet?

Nice half penny and that pit looks like fun! HH, Mike

Sweet coin, Josh!! It could not have been found by a
more deserving hunter, Doesn't it feel GREAT, seeing
one of those come out of the ground!!!!!

Great find Josh!!!!..........Best of Luck at the DIV

Another impressive find Josh. That's an oldie!!! See you in VA. WTG and HH.

Ah, another Virigina Halfpenny, nice colonial copper to find, but I never think much about finding one but every now and then they show up. I agree with you an others, finding an older coin usually at the very beginning of a hunt or at the very end is common and also the kiss of death a lot of times when you find one right away, seems to mean, no more for the rest of the hunt for some reason. :icon_scratch:

Will be watching to see what comes out of Div hunt, good luck to all who are participating.

Don
