Colonial embankment part 4. I got to meet the king!

Just because a hillside is nearly vertical and covered in 3 foot high weeds no reason to wait until spring. Used my walking stick to beat down a small area detect and then repeat. Found a hotspot with 3 buttons and a colonial copper. This was about 15 feet from where I found the Connecticut copper. Well anyway here's the pictures I included one of the spot I dug the copper. Anyone who knows anything about the type or whatever feel free to chime in as far as I can tell it's a King George 3 1770.

CONGRATS! looks like some of the places I hang out.

You sir... are one determined hunter! Congratulations on some hard-won finds.

Actually it's a 1772. Excellent find-keep beatin' the brush!

Congrats on the old copper and other nice finds

Very Nice old copper!!

Very well done. That's a nice coin.

Best of luck to you sir!

You may have a good counterfeit there. I have a 1772 KG III that is a Machins Mills Vlak 72-A and it is rather valuable. Yours is slightly different than mine though. Yours looks to have a larger date and the bust of ole George is a little different.
If that embankment is nearly vertical, there may be some goodies collected at the base.
EDIT: Upon further review I don't think you have a Machins Mills. I don't see the triangular denticles around the rim that distinguishes Machins Mills Coppers

Thanks. Do you still think it could be counterfeit though? That would be exciting. I tried at the bottom of the embankment there is an overwhelming amount of aluminum cans from the 70s. The creek is right at the bottom of the very steep part I might give that a try after I am done whipping bushes with a stick LOL

Congratualtions on the old copper recovery! :occasion14:

It is most certainly a counterfeit. The question is whether its an American counterfeit (very good) or a British counterfeit (common). Almost all the King George III halfpennies circulating in North America were counterfeits.

After a bit if TLC. A bit more detail

Congratulations, I knew there would be more good finds besides the Connecticut. Well worth the effort. Good job. I hope there is much more there. If it was in fact a river crossing I hope you can find the trails and hunt them also.

Thanks. This spot is very close to where there was a very old Ford in the river. Since the Ford a bridge was built and then after the flood of '36 they did not bother to rebuild the bridge. A newer railroad grade has destroyed most of where the old Crossing came out of the river. But I am still quite close to the spot.

Nice coin even if counterfeit. I hope you can find an old silver or two there.

Thanks, as long as it was made in the 18th century I don't care who made it lol. It is my first KG
