October 26th, fall has arived in cold country, with the wind chill it was freezing.

Got two horse shoes right off the bat, so I'm thinking could be a lucky day. It was with a couple crossed off the list, although nothing special, and not a single coin.

First jews harp.

First bell of this type not broke.

All in all, a good day for sure.

Good luck out there.

how old is this colonial site, is it one of those borderline ones in the early to mid 1860s just before confederation, or one one of those rare to Ontario pre-1840s.

Thanks everyone.

Nice finds, love the bells.

Me too, the open one is a definite favorite, and will go in the permanent display.

Hey, that's the fun part scratching things of ones list! now to get a gold coin or rare military plate :headbang:

Gold coin not even on the list, silver cache is though.

i've yet to dig a brass jews harp.just iron pieces so far.i was told the open bells are called conestoga bells and were on carriages or wagons.nice day out dude!

According to a couple of sites that term "contesoga" refers to the method of mounting more than the bell itself. see here http://classicbells.com/Info/Open.htm

I'd probably call it a horse or sleigh bell, but given it's small size it more than likely was placed on a sheep.

The site pre dates 1860, by how much, can't say.
