Got out with Romeo for a couple digs and felt like the site was the frying pan and I was the egg. Yes I have a new found appreciation for cold water and air-conditioning.

1st pic... the junkets pile.

2nd pic... Yes, I did dig an iron.

and 3rd... My best find of the hunts was this 1700s Felling axe. This was found at a small cabin site settled by a private in the Royal Provincials (Loyalist) who landed here shortly after the Revolution. That to me is what makes the find much more worthy than just a reg. old axe head.

Too bad the little brass ring was broken. Still in an old silver drought but with this heat I can wait.

Nice early hatchet.

Nice find-----That ax is top shelf

Your junkets pile looks awesome! What are the bottom three roundies? Look like big old coins to me.

Jim

I agree look like worn large cents

2 are coins, 1 is an 1814 halfpenny token from Nova Scotia, Canada. The other 1919 Wheatie. Center is some sort of lead disk, not sure what this is but have found them before.

Derek, had it all been from one site then not a bad hunt, but man of man we probably drove a few hundred miles and detected a dozen places to come up with that. Just a combination of planted fields, my favs. being hay and too grown, and nothing in the ones we scouted. The axe was the only hole I dug in over an hour at that particualr site.

I'm pretty sure it's not a trade ring, found on a site having 1812 buttons.

The two places I wanted to really try the owner wasn't around for permission. Next week I might have a good ticket to post. :D

I await future IronPatch posts !!
Not fun burning gas and driving all those miles but I think the recoveries more then make up for the cost of finding them !!

MORE - MORE - MORE !!!

Derek

Nice digs buddy. I've done the same thing looking for just one silver coin before. I hit 5 different sites one day...and finally found a merc at the least expected park....right before dark. Hey...I'd have been out there with my flashlight if needed. I wasn't going home til' I found one ;D

I have found several. Some date back to the earliest settlers we have here which is what makes them good finds.

Only one 50 years old? ... maybe you should be calling me Sir. Iron patch. :icon_king:
