Colorado gold.

Thinking of heading over to Colorado to do some panning and sluicing. Noticed it's pretty restricted when it comes to sluicing. From what I can tell BLM has different rules for different districts.

I sent an email asking for permit info in Little Snake River district. Will grand junction issue a sluice permit if you don't know where you plan to go? Looks like the form wants cords and a plan.

Also what are the rules if you have a self contained setup? Is that considered casual use if you aren't making a big mess? I can see leaving behind big holes and destroying stuff being a problem. What are your guys experiences in Colorado?

I'm looking at Taylor creek, west of Craig, little snake River, yampa River and gunnison areas. More than likely going to try NFS too.

Any suggestions? Don't think I'll make it as far as denver.

Well to add to the thread here is a small report on Cache Creek!

First pan right out the creek I got one huge flake the shape of california! Nice and rugged ugly little guy. Was not a picker by any means but... Was decent! A hundred of them suckers and I woulda bee thrilled. Well I worked the cemetery side and stayed away from the gulch directly in front of the trail and decided to let the locals have it! I went for the scenic side and set up camp in the trees near the tailings piles and ponds made by the resident beaver that slapped his tail all gosh darn night!!!

Next time I'll head left and work the banks... Maybe try the dry gulch! My biggest achievement was testing the sluice and concentrator. Lucky for me I ended up with a bucket of blondes and black sands in the tailings bucket under the concentrator. I spent two hours panning it out to find no gold flakes. I did however run into my sluice clogging up but..... She still caught gold!!!!

My first time rating! 5/5 only because I got my best gold in the first pan right out of the water up stream from the dry gulch.... Tells you something right

Randy is a super guy; known him over 5 years. Cache Creek gold is better than the Arkansas River in size but it can be spotty. Here is a snapshot of gold Randy got earlier this month.
