...dirtbags don't spend money and time to fill out forms, volunteer to be fingerprinted, photographed, and background checked. They don't take mandatory gun safety courses either.

The way I see it these are good things, they are just a pain in the arse for the smart law abiding citizen. What they do is allow a gun to be tracked (if it isn't a saturday night special) up to a point. And no, they don't keep tabs on them unless they are involved in a crime. It keeps the morons out but unfortunately not the dirtbags. It's too much work for the law abiding moron such as myself. Therefore, I don't own. If I did I'm sure someone would get hurt accidentally.

I think we should all have the right to carry a handgun as long as it's holstered and in full view. You can still carry a side arm in full view in California. Most cities have adopted laws that forbid that, but out of the city limits it's still legal to do so in most places.

We can carry weapons in our vehicles too, long guns have few restrictions, but the devil handgun has stricter rules. When the rally call comes to protect the Constitution, I'll be ready along with my light gear and walking cane. hehehehe

Yeah, you can still own these as long as they where registered back when Dan Lungren was CAAG. I think that was back in 1991, long time ago.

When the first states issued concealed carry gun permits. the Sareh Brady Bunch cried like babies and put out all kinds of propaganda estimating that there would be thousands of shooting deaths and hundreds of children would be accidentally shot because of all the handguns that people would have. This went on until some of the stats came out about five years later that indeed showed just the opposite of the Brady Bunch's forecast of doom. The same thing happened when the ban on so called "assault" weapons expired. Again the stats on deaths and injuries have begun dropping. Regardless, with the majority of the congress being democarats you will soon see the ban handgun groupies start up again. The stats don't fit so they make up down right lies to push their agenda. Rant Mode On

All Canadian firearms owner only 'wish' they had the freedoms that Americans have.. Years of liberal governments have equated the ownership of a pistol, with being a criminal. Back in the 60's I used to hunt with my handgun. Now, I need a 'restricted' firearms licence, AND a ATC (authorization to transport) just to take it to the only place in the country where you can legally fire it, and thats the gun club shooting range.. I even have to apply for a special permit just to take it to a gunsmith!!! The ONLY way you can get a permit to carry it in a holster off the range, is if your working in the wilderness as a trapper or prospector, and you really have to jump through hoops to get that..
There are a lot of Americans that don't like GWB's politics, but if you are voting for a liberal party, your voting to remove your rights
Look at Canada, you certainly don't want the paranoid gun laws we have up here.. We have three main political parties up here
The N.D.P (new democratic party)
The Liberal Party
The Conservative Party

ALL of the Canadian parties regardless of their name, are left wing..
There are NO 'real' right wing parties in Canadian politics..

Up here, sad as it may seem, ANYTHING a woman could carry in her purse to keep her attacker at a distance, and protect herself is illegal, and she would probably spend more time in jail than her attacker should she use it to injure him.. Something as simple as a can of die marking mace that will not only stop an attacker, but colour him bright green for the police, it a 'prohibited weapon' Why? be cause liberal thinking says a criminal could also carry it, and any use of a weapon would only increase the level of violence B\It's better she gets raped and murdered, less paperwork, and won;t upset liberal values.. As Americans, enjoying the many freedoms that you have, you should think long and hard before you vote in 2008.. How many rights and freedoms do YOU want to be relieved of..
Look to the north before you vote, and see what the result of almost 30 years of liberal rule has done to us..(You have had a hint of what would come, just look at your "Brady Bunch") Good job we have free medical.. I keep a gun in my car and always carry one (along with pepper spray) while out hunting in the woods or mountains.

It doesn't take much here in Kentucky to get a concealed carry permit - basically a clean background check and a reason (former police or corrections officer) is what I used.

The simple fact is that banning handguns/firearms only affects honest, law-abiding citizens. If you take away guns from law abiding citizens, the only people left with guns are criminals.

do you think the guy who just bought a stolen 9mm on the corner for 150 bucks cares that he doesn't have a carry permit? that possession of the firearm itself is prohibited because he is already a felon? or the at high capacity mags in the gun are illegal where he is? NOPE!

I've dealt with this issue in the past, and always get the questions from clients. (I'm an attorney, and have 2 clients who own gun stores). All the statistics show that states that have liberal concealed carry laws have lower violent crime. Reactions from the Brady camp and knee jerk liberals are almost always skewed, and out of proportion. In the court houses here in RI, cops are not allowed to carry inside (on duty or off). The Sherriffs inside the buildings, the guys who WORK there, and transport prisoners, are not allowed to carry on duty. WHY? Because some of the judges feel "unsafe" and won't allow them in their courtrooms.

I have a CCW. I shoot regularly. I carry often. When I first applied for my carry permit, I was told that I didn't "need" to carry. (Part of our law is discretionary). I requested a hearing and told the hearing officer that if he wanted to make me a felon, then he should deny my permit... because I was going to carry if I felt the need. An hour later, I had my permit.

We don't need more laws on guns. We don't need to ban this type and prohibit that. Most gun owners are responsible and law abiding. Sure you occasionally get the morons that want to own a howitzer and bring it to the range... but we all pretty much obey the law. What we NEED to do is enforce properly the existing laws. Remove guns from and punish felons who aren't supposed to have them. Enforce restraining orders that require the parties to turn in firearms (one of my clients was murdered by her estranged ex-husband, who had a restraining order against him). Enforce carry laws, age limits, and criminal misconduct.

We need to enforce the laws we have, and apply some common sense to them.

I definitely agree that we have a ton of laws that are unconstitutional and should be removed. But I also think that many of the laws we do have are good, but need to be enforced.

I stated that I carry here, to make a point. I have stated it in the past, and mostly in conjunction with similar topics.
