Ever wanted to get a super close-up of an item and found that the macro setting still didn't get it big enough for you? A really simple and inexpensive to do trick is to invert a wide angle lens and put it on the front of a telephoto lens with an adapter ring setup.

If you use a 250mm Telephoto and place an inverted 25mm wide angle lens on the front it will give you 10X magnification to really bring out the details. Formula to figure out your magnification factor is divide the focal length of the telephoto by the focal of the wide angle. you can also use this on a zoom type lens. Just use the formula to figure out what power of magnification you're at.

I haven't tried this with a DSLR camera but it should still work as long as you've got interchangeable lenses.

You can also get extension tubes for your camera that essentially move the elements of the lens further from the sensor and work great for macro photography. Saves you from adding weight to the end of a potentially expensive telephoto lens. I've seen that type of setup break the filter mounts on cheaper lenses.
