I paid $5 for this really cool copper horse weathervane today. The owner had just replaced the shingles on her roof and didn't want to put it back up. Can anyone give me an idea as to age and value? I don't think it's really old, but I'm not positive.

Here's a few pics:

My first guess would be near the age of the house. At least the part it was mounted to.

That is referred to as a silhouette weather vane. I can tell you that it does not look like one of the many different mass produced and/or modern made pieces. I don't know how old it is but these types of weather vanes were very popular around the turn of the century and offered a less expensive alternative to swell-bodied weather vanes. Did you ask the lady anything about it? Cupola's are usually on barns. I would do a property search and see how old the house is that it came off of.

I asked the woman how old her home was, but she wasn't sure. She's only owned the house for 20 years or so. But your idea about the property search gave me my answer! I looked it up on the tax rolls and the house was built in 1952. That's probably when they put up the weathervane.

Thanks for the help, guys! I'll mark this one as solved.
