Found on a river near known Indian mounds I was hoping copper culture probably wishful thinking any thoughts. Update after sending out a few emails to people dealing in bronze artifacts I may have a lead I'll post the email

It's a long shot got the idea from another thread could it be an oar lock that would explain why the posts are bent in opposite directions

Ok can we agree that it's a Celtic design? Not saying it's that old but the spiral was a widely used

It is not brass... it is definitely bronze.
It is not a bottle opener or any other "modern" item.
It is definitely cool. ... and rare. IMO

Wish I could help on this one Mint...
I tell you what...
I will get my lazy arse int a research mode for you...
Which is rare these days I might add.

I just walked in ... long hot sore day.
Shower and some food is in order.

I am surprised that not more have joined this thread...
And to be honest I forgot all about it.

I've been emailing a few ppl that deal in Celtic and other bronze artifacts. Let's hope someone hits me back if I hear anything I'll be sure to give an update. The first guy I hit up only deals in North American copper artifacts when I thought it might be Native American. He said it looks pre Colombian but not Native American so out of his realm. And if anyone knows of someone that deals in these sort of thing pm me I'll contact them I don't mind doing a little leg work. Any tip thought or suggestion would be much appreciated thanks MBC

I just looked into what that guys was saying about its origin if he's correct this thing could be around 3000 years old. I'm not so sure if it is horse related even though I did also bring that up lots of similar looking items. It fits so perfect in my hand and it was defently used to turn twist or bend something. I'll keep trying to figure it out but at least I know it's very old and I have a new direction to look in

Idk if anyone read that email I posted but he suggested a few areas I could look into. so I sent another email application to a place that deals in middle eastern bronze artifacts. I get it but it's really slowing things down anyway did some reading. Luristan ppl lived in a mountainous area of western Iran. They made mad jewelry, horse gear and tools out of bronze. Used multiple methods to do so need to do a little more reading on that topic. I have high hopes from this next place but if I don't hear back in the morning I doubt I will HH

I did get a reply today and could send out some pictures. They said it was intriguing brought up the horse thing but agreed it couldn't be part of a harness or other horse tact unless the open end was broken and doesn't appear to be. I did ask them how old they thought it was? The reply was -likely 1000bc - crazy
