Hey Guys, please tell me what you like about your Cortes, and what you do not like about it.....I was looking at some literature on the unit, and it seems to be a nice machine...How easy is it to use???? Does it have a "preset" mode...??? Is it turn on, and go???? Does it get good depth in average soil???? What about the beach???? Pros.....Cons......Thank you very much for any input on this unit.....Feel free to tell me your story's about learning the machine...Thanks very much, Tom Shaw

I am mostly a Coin shooter, but might relic hunt some day, also might go to the beach once in a blue moon......

Galli, have my Cortes about 3 years now and love it. Meter is accurate for coins and shows target ID in All Metal and Disc modes plus target depth at the same time. Seeing how deep the target is helpful when the signal is iffy. The Notch system knocks out most tabs and still gets ladies gold rings, but not heavier gold rings when Notch is used, they fall into the tab range. Tesoro detectors have knobs, not touch pads and I like that feature. The preset GB in Disc mode works great in NJ and Ohio when I was there visiting. As most detectors, not too good at the beach around black sand or wet sand. I use the SUM mode when I need it. Also have a Golden, Fisher ID Edge and Fisher CZ7aPro. Cortes is the one I grab just about every time I go out. CZ is best for the beach. ID Edge meter is quite jumpy, depth about the same as the Cortes. Golden is good because of the 4 tones and it has an adjustable notch. The Cortes is easy to learn and use. I like the Edge for its 4 tones, Cortes has 9 tones but only in SUM mode, need to push the switch. Depth is good but not as good as the CZ. I re-labeled the meter to make it easier to read, printing was too tiny before. Used Microsoft Excel to make the label.

Tykit, thanks for your reply....When in the disc mode do you have to mess with the ground balance, or is it automatic, like the Ace 250???? So the salt water beach is out with this machine huh????? Is there anything you do not like about it???? Also how much depth do you lose in the disc mode???? Is it a turn on, and go unit???? Thanks again for your reply...Look forward to hearing others thoughts also...Tom

Galli, In air tests, Disc mode, it gives a good audio and meter for a 7.5" dime, at 8" still pretty good diggable signal. For a quarter 9" max. Would be OK in dry beach sand, not black sand areas or wet sand. Good jewelry detector. Disc mode is preset ground balance, manual adjustment knob for All Metal mode only. I have no problems using Disc mode in NJ, and testing by bobbing the coil produces no signal, thats good. Nothing I don't like about it, wish it had 4 tones in Disc mode, but it does have 9 tones when SUM switch is held. When I detect a quarter and if I hit the SUM switch and hear a high tone then I know it's a quarter, dimes are a lower tone, zincs lower still. Also has a night light. It's a turn on and go detector in my opinion, nothing complicated with this detector. If beach hunting is important a Fisher Cz type works great, has salt mode switch, excellent detector for the beach, real deep on land too. I bought my Cortes new from Backwoods Detectors, Richard is a great guy to buy through, I bought about 8 things through him. When a detector grabs my interest I buy it, new or used. If I decide I don't like it or if it's too similar to my other detectors then I sell it on the Detector Classifieds Forum.

Tykit,
I like the additions you made to the cortes, especially that label with my eyes gettin worse with age..

Went to Staples and purchased a $ 7.00 bar magnifier, placed it over the screen and now all is triple the size, its a beautiful thing. Try one out, ya cant beat it.
