Could this be a Musket buttplate?

[Trentonfrank]

I found this piece of iron today in a field where I have found a bunch of civil war bullets. I also find a lot of farming equipment too but this had an unusual shape and I figured I better get some clarification on it before I put it in the scrap iron bin. Its 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Frank

I will let one of our gun guys confirm, but it it's iron, I'd say it is a piece from farm equipment.

Looks like a leaf of a leaf spring.

Looks like part of a plow blade, someone probably hit a rock.

Maybe something like one of these "harrow" blades?

much too big for a butt plate, they tend to be in the 4-5 inches range as far as length, and a lot narrower
