Curious why you bothered to weigh it and test whether it sticks to a magnet? Besides looking phony, there never was an 1887 CC Morgan dollar.

It looked and sounded wrong. I weighed it and checked it with a magnet just out of curiosity.

To me the obverse would pass my initial first glance, but looking at "one dollar" on the reverse - that just looks off to me. I wonder if it is a new fake, or one that was made back in the 1800's?

Years ago at a metal detecting meeting a guy brought some fake coins he found at old home sites. A large cent he had looked really white and he said that it was made out of some kind of pot metal, and must have turned color from being buried.

Probably one of those fakes that came from Asia. I recall reading long ago somewhere that in Asia like in Hong Kong, they would sell a ton of counterfeit silver dollars. They used to have anywhere from fake Trade Dollars to fake rare date varieties. I also remember someone showed me a bunch of Peace dollars he bought at a flea market once for what he thought were a deal. After examination, they seemed extremely light and the strikes were weak that I told him they were fake. You can usually tell upon closer examination of the counterfeits. They will usually have raised points on the coin metal from the unclean process they use to mint them.
