Hi ya'll,

Today I went to a huge county park that offers trails, and plenty of acres to MD in.
I found a clad nickel, a key, an old winchester 12 gauge shell, and this "thing" in a dry
rock bed area about 2-3 inches down. I almost gave up on the signal, because I saw no
"coin", or obvious metal object...then when I passed my detector over the hole once more, and then the dirt & rock I had taken out of the hole, my Garrett MD sounded loud & clear on the pile that came out of the hole. All I saw were dirty "rocks"...
but this one "rock" looking glob was the source of the strong high tone gold range signal. I got it home, cleaned it with soap & water, looks like a silvery glob to me...
don't have a clue, can ya'll help figure out what the heck this is?

* The reading my garret gives it is NOT a coin, it shows up dead in the middle of the GOLD range.
I stated above that I was expecting a "coin" sound & the target box identifier as well, but it was
in the Gold range, not coin. I was just so used to getting the coin signals, thought it was funny
signal came in on the gold range.

*** Here are 3 more picture, in addition to the two scans:

*** I just added another picture, showing me testing the "thing" with my MD again, it
comes in loud & clear at 5.5 Gold range on the meter.

95% Zink and 5% lead, I have found similar looking "blobs" and that's what mine were. A soldering iron didn't melt them either, but a blow torch did wonders ;) I had mine tested and that's what they were (thanks tman). I hope for your sake your blob is more valueable.

Maybe stainless steel ?
Maybe meteorite?
Maybe titanium alloy?
It looks like it went thru a rotary blade or something.
If it is heavy could be any alloy.
Does it stick to a magnet?

Hi Foilman,

No, it does not attract to a magnet at all. It does have a little weight to it, for its size especially. It is just about a perfect fit lenth & width wise of the end of my index finger, from last joint to tip.
The suspense will hopefully be over by weeks end, I intend to take a day off tommorow,
to take care of errands, this and the bracelt included. Wish me luck ;-)

That does not look like natural state metal. It looks like it has been melted. Unless you found it a mining regeon I'd say it was some type of slag. But I would get a definitive answer before throwing it out. A jeweler can do a quick acid test for Platinum.
