Hunted one of my newer sites and pounded the actual foundation...of course a lot of iron but I did manage the nearly complete trigger guard and what I believe is a French clasp knife. The clasp knife would be early 1700s and the trigger guard would be a little later...pretty sure it's a Brown Bess but I could also be a French musket.

There are Roman numerals etched into the bottom of the trigger guard which I have found on almost all musket parts I've found. I'm not entirely sure the meaning but have always assumed they were an inventory system as they are hidden when the parts are mounted on the musket.

Great finds, I know it's not silver but still very nice pieces.
ZDD

Those etched numerals are quite prevalent on a lot of musket brass pieces, I've found a few myself. Inventory, founders marks, model numbers are all plausible thoughts on what they were used for ,we may find out some day. Until then, just keep diggin' 'em !

Way to go!Very eciting to dig things and then that moment when you realize you have something with some age to it!:)

interesting finds ! ;)

Cool finds , there is more around, keep digging:thumbsup:HH

For sure...the only problem is that this field wreaks havoc with my detector. Not sure what it is but it creates some serious echos and non-signal signals which just about drive me crazy! Doesn't matter how I tune the detector...

Having said that...I will definitely be back on this field very soon!

Those musket parts are awesome I found a trigger gaurd and other pieces earlier this year.

Nice work! The ramrod channels I have dug have both had roman numerals carved into them. Not sure what they meant, but yes they were hidden when affixed as well.

Cheers,

Buck

Nice finds man. Good to see someone is getting out. My adventures will begin this week!

Have the same old guard also and found it at a mixed site....I will have to check for markings on mine...I do find a lot of roman numerals on my ram rod thimbles... great saves
