Hi everyone. It's so nice to find different material other than Rhyolite.. ::)
Here are my very first finds here in FLA. These were just laying ontop of the sand waiting for me. ;D
I have permission to go dig up a few acres near the river (not on the river) on private property. I have done a lil diggin before but, this will be a serious deep dig, well as far down as the sand will alllow. Wish me luck & would appreciate any advice from the pros...
Thanks for looking. :icon_thumleft:

Very nice Molly. How's Florida treating you? You like it down there? I have a feeling it won't be long and you'll be posting quite a few new finds as you learn where to hunt. Have you tried to find any Sharks Teeth yet?

Hi Steve, I was so excited to find my first points here in Florida. It's ok here but not the weather I am used too, also the bugs are a pest. I am finding some great places to hunt. A friend of mine found a nice conch shell adze. I just walked right past it, so I am at the moment researching shell tools, so I know what to look for.
I'm getting ready to dig, soon as it cools down here, Oct? Looks like I am hunting in a Woodland period site, due to what I have found already, which is a good thing, in NC I rarely found that period, was mostly Archaic.

Sharks teeth? Steve, I have decided to keep everything that remains in my sifter (I have made). That way I can wash them off & examine them closer in the COOL. Boy it gets HOT here. :-\
That's one thing I really want is some shark teeth to go in my FLA frame. I have 3 points & a blade so far, all Chert.
I have a good feeling about this dig site, its prime hunting where I'm staying.
I'll keep you posted. I did find 1/3 of a pot, stuck in the sand bank, must have been wet for soo long, it was breaking up, which is ashame. No designs on it though, which i do believe is typical of that period. I'm going to have to dig carefully, I would hate to destroy any pottery. So fingers crossed, lets hope the Woodland culture bless me with some nice finds. ::)

Thanks for the post.

Hi Naturegirl, hunting here is totally different to what I am used to, plowed fields. Took me a while to train my eyes again but, getting there.
Thanks, good luck to you too.Yup, sharks teeth would look good in my FLA frame, also prolly make me a necklace too.

:D I did do extremely good in NC. However I did leave you a few.. ;D Infact I left all the scrapers, flakes, chips & some blades, for the next person who hunts that spot. BUT, I'll be going back there next year, my favourite field had grain in it this year, so impossible to hunt, tobbacco next year.. :hello2:

Thanks for the kind words everyone..

Ah ... yes... the tobacco fields. I haven't been in a tobacco field since I was a kid. My grandparents had a tobacco farm in Milton, NC. I use to work tobacco when I was on vacation from school. Nasty work... but great memories. (the pay stunk, too).

Hi Molly,
Here in Florida you can be on a Woodland site and dig a little deeper , it becomes an Archaic site! The cultures lived on th same rivers just different times! Digging isn't too bad as it is a lot of sand. A sharp thin shovel is best and it will not really be cool till Thanksgiving but October can have some nice days.
When it's hot stick to the water with a snorkel. I know you will not keep anything found that way . It's cooler and you can find a lot of fossils as well. Get a fossil permit from the state (5 bucks) and you have a legit reason to be snorkeling in the rivers. Watch for gators on big rivers and creeks. Pottery is everywhere and you will find some with marks and handels but most often not.
Good luck and also what area of Florida did you end up living in? Yeah, I'm nosy!

I know Milton very well, I used to visit the sandwich store there. I wasn't at all far away from there.. I too miss those tobbacco fields.
Thanks for posting rwsnc.

Snorkle the river with gators in there?? Yeah right !!! LOL. I aint that brave. I do walk the river banks but, I know the laws, I don't take anything home. I don't need to I have a great campsite to hunt away from the river, lots of pottery & shells etc.
Check your PM.
Thanks for posting NM.
