Couple of new finds.

Hi everyone. It's so nice to find different material other than Rhyolite.. ::)

Here are my very first finds here in FLA. These were just laying ontop of the sand waiting for me.

I have permission to go dig up a few acres near the river (not on the river) on private property. I have done a lil diggin before but, this will be a serious deep dig, well as far down as the sand will alllow. Wish me luck & would appreciate any advice from the pros...

nice finds Molly, you mean you dont miss that beautiful rhyolite? lol. Good to see you back on it in the sunshine state, alot of nice lithics down there. Have you id'd the first one? looks like some early flaking possibly?

I have been told both points look Woodland period. But unsure just yet..I have come across heaps of pottery but with no designs on it. I do believe that's typical for Woodland period..

Rhyolite..I have enough of that material to last me a lifetime..I hunted everyday for 2 years...

BUT, I will be going back next year, to hunt my old fields. I hear it callin' me..lmao... ::)

Nice finds. I'm glad at least one was laying there and saved you a little digging. My back tells me that digging is not my favorite thing.

Molly I like to get a hole deep enough to get in and then bucket out everything to a sifter. If there is anyway you can use water to sift its easier. If you are digging by yourself be careful. Dig to right below the artifact line. Enlarge hole so you can get in the hole safely and then you can work the walls moving the material behind you and excavating forward.

This is what is really great is if you are near the river and its not far below you lots of times you can hit the water table at the level of the river and the river will flood your hole and bingo you have water to sift with in your hole.
Good luck with your permission to dig hunt and looks like you will have a great time seeing what you have found thus far. Hope this helps some.

TN, I think FLA is one BIG water table. You dig an hole & it fills up with water.. But I do see what you mean about that being an advantage. Thanks for the advice, it all helps me. I will try that, working forwards & sifting behind me..sounds like a plan.

Hey Molly, way to go girl. I'd be happy with those any day to tell the truth. Now you wont be impressed with the ole Ouachita quartzite or Novaculite I find on the Red River any more!! Hey, glad your back in the saddle again my wonderful friend. Keep at it!!

Oh yes I WILL, Novaculite is my fave material, love that PINK.. ::)

Chert is nice but noway does it even come close to Novaculite OR Ouchita Quartzite. Thanks, its good to be back here & hunting, my friend.

Shawn, I haven't even started diggin' yet, can't WAIT to see what I find.
Lots of Woodland peices here, let's hope I find a nice pot & some stone beads..
