Like all of us I find a lot of crusty zink cents. some of them are really bad. What do you do with them I have a plastic 3 pound coffee container full of them. Really don't want to toss them, they are money and I have trouble throwing money in the trash, but they are getting out of hand and need to go away. thanks for any ideas

I had a large coffee can filled to the top with those zincs. I put them out at a garage sale and some guy bought them for $3.00! most of them had 10% to 50% of there metal eaten away! Completely worthless! ;D

Give them a good cleaning and spend whatever the bank won't take. :headbang:

I throw a handful in my pocket and always use them rounding up, I also prefer using cash that helps.

last time i sent a can to the un mist for recovery and they sent me a check a few weeks later , with a nice letter stating there sorry for the loss and were able to come up with a amount of face value. dont know what they ment but i think form later reserch they do it if you have the remnents of US currency they will repalce it as what you are sending them as what they recived is uncertable . check them out

most banks should take them as they can get their money back from the federal reserve for them, but they may have to sit on them for a while until they have enough to make it worth their time and effort. however, a lot of banks these days are simply refusing them because they don't want to mess with them. in my case, if they are to eaten too much to be spent I will usually just toss them in the trash against my better judgement. it seems to be the way of the world any more.

save them for a kids md hunt or drop them on the beach you have just hunted to give some other md er somthing to find :laughing7:

I love using them to jam up the coinstar machine!

I took a nice vintage half gallon canning jar (blue with metal lid) and filled it with the old zincs and a silver round and a nice Franklin half dollar, along with foreign coins. I donated it to the Mo-Kan treasure hunt in Lathrop,Mo. The prize winner was very happy with It. Be creative with your donations, it's fun.
P/S- I didn't win any prizes...........

i put better ones in coin star.banks wont take nasty ones.I did contact mint rec once. They told me they only took paper. And to toss the pennies that were to rotted. You also dont want to keep severly rotted zincs around as it can turn into zinc oxide if they get moisture. And they will actually burn your hands.Saw a article online where a bank atendent had that happen.

Call the Federal Mints they may help since no banks want them. Or like one guy does is spend the ones you can and bury the rest and let kids find them.

i do not dig zincs.. unless they are deep.. they sound like junk in my ear. MR TUFF

send those "rotten" zinc cents in to pay your taxes with -- US Govt you mint crappy money --you get it "right" back --fair is fair--- you made it and "issued" it to me and thus make me deal with it , so now you take it , and "deal" with it.

Yep or just save them up to pay parking tickets with

Sad.. put them in rolls and pass them at the bank.

I've been throwing them away. HH

Here's a great thing you can do with them.... Some houses have moss and lichen that grow on the shingles. It can ruin the roof after a while, and lets moisture get under the shingles. Well, it turns out that "Zinc kills moss"... sooooo if ya wannna get rid of any moss or lichen on your roof then take a bunch of those pennies and spread them out on your roof.... in a month or so the moss or lichen will be dead!!!!! :headbang: HH M

Whatever the coin star doesn't take gets tossed
