The CTX is very Heavy compared to the Manticore. The ctx does have more options then the manticore though. If you lived close to me i would let you try my CTX !!!

I just switched over to the Manticore after swinging a V3i for 10 years.

The Manticore is very sensitive and light.
I ran a V3i for many years and I still have it, along with the new Manticore. The V3i has a state of the art diagnostics, especially in polar display. It tells if it is conductive definitively IMO. The Manticore's 2D display just can not match the polar display on the V. I never swung a CTX myself but a hunt buddy of mine did several years ago. The CTX with its similar 2D display like the Manticore, is likely where Minelab got the Manticores 2D. Light machine though. I don't think I would get the CTX but like I said, I never have even held a CTX. I really need to get out with my Manticore a lot more to prove it.

I still have mine as well and will hold onto it as a back up.

I do wish the manticore had some of the features that the v had, such as neg VDIs as well as the analyze screen. I liked that when I used that and saw the camel hump I knew I had a good target.

what one would you get if money is not a option.
Neither. Both of those made my short list, but I went another way--no regrets.

However, between just those two, I'd have gone with the Manticore.
  • ctx 3030 is 12 years old; Manticore is 2 years old.
  • I have no need/use for built-in GPS.
  • ctx 3030: 5.2 lbs.; Manticore: 2.9 lbs. More an issue if you're old & decrepit like some of us. (Or try strapping a 2 lb. weight to your forearm for a few hours... 😛)

  • Check google (if haven't already) for "minelab ctx 3030 vs. manticore" Lots out there; some from here
