Not the most exciting thread in the world, but I would like to see responses to this. Do any of you guys hit CWR really hard, either exclusively or much more so than boxes? Also, to anyone that has done both CWR and BWR for quite some time, what produces better in the long run? I know the rule of thumb is CWR, but until this week (one full roll wheats, 4 rosies in $200 dimes), I have had terrible luck with CWR. I am thinking of doing them nearly exclusively in my hunt for the solid silver roll.

Depends on your area. I live in a big area full of Boeing and NASA employees and retirees, and about 1/2 of the city's population is smart enough to pick out the good stuff before depositing coin. CWRs in my area SUCK.

Very good point. Assuming boxes integrate the knowledgeable as well as unknowledgeable geographic areas, CWR vs. MWR are a function of the knowledge in your specific area vs. the average

CWRs/loose have been very good to me the last couple weeks, but in general they are hit and miss. Boxes produce fairly steady, I have never had a week go by in the last 48 or so without finding silver. As long as I average better than 1 silver/2 boxes ill keep doing boxes and CWRs.

CWR kick MWR butts there is no ifs, ands or buts about it.

I want to believe but every time I get a set of CWRs theres nothing and its short coins. Adn this is in upper middle class neighborhoods. Is there a trick on asking for specific types of rolls?

I have a lot of banks in my area and most of the people that I have talked to watch for silver. But then again our store sits in a poverty stricken place where our coin counter gets a big workout. It has to be changed out twice a week most of the time. I recently opened a box of pennies. Got 7 wheaties and a good amount of pre-1980's coin. Some of these coins are nice looking, shiny. Not BU and not cleaned but just nice looking. I am thinking about checking the smaller bank that is in my town. Only has two workers in it so I am going to call and see if they have any halves for purchuse. Will let you know what happens.

Sincerely, garoulady

I have found many rolls of solid-siver cwr halves in the last few years. I've searched well over $100,000 in cwr dimes and have never found a solid silver roll.

On a roll per roll basis, CWRs will outproduce MWRs quite handily. And, for the most part, your only chance of a truly HUGE score is from CWRs/bags. But, as with anything, there are drawbacks. First, you can't always find CWRs. Second, you can easily spend more in gasoline trying to run them down than you find in silver. I have on more than one occasion driven over 400 miles in a day searching for CWR halves and not found enough silver to even pay for the gas I burned on the trip. Vehicular expenses incurred while CRHing are no different than paying fees for boxes. At ~$4 per gallon of gasoline, those expenses can add up rather quickly.

My advice is to order boxes for a contant supply of coins to search, but also buy every CWR you come across. There is no need to choose. Do both.

I stopped reading here. This guy pretty much has it dead on.

My best scores have come from CWR's. Total volume-wise, it's about 50/50. CWR's are feast or famine, BWR's are consistent producers.
