CW bullets - Carved & lead oddities - ***SHOW US YOURS***

O.K. folks, I thought it would be a bit of fun and a learning experience to show off some of the carved CW bullets, and lead oddities you may have dug at various CW sites. Most of my carved bullets were found at a CW camp I discovered about a year ago along with big pieces of melted camp lead.
I have always liked finding carved bullets best of all, because they just seem to have so much more meaning to them than a fired or dropped CW bullet. Maybe it's just me? :dontknow: :tongue3:
Anyways, here's what I have to show from my 3 year detecting "career".
Any idea on the lead tube or the two with slits though them?

***SHOW US YOUR CARVED BULLETS & LEAD ODDITIES***

Thanks,
MM

ModernMiner.. I think your bottom two were designed as fishing weights or tent flap weights..
(pinch on)
The flatness may be from whatever solid object was used to hammer the blade into the bullet...

Excellent job Spooky!!! I would have never guessed that, and have often wondered what those two pieces were.
Thanks so much. I know this would be a learning experience. ;D

Those are some great finds you have. I have a few, mostly fishing sinkers, nipple protectors, one carved that looks like a game piece and one that I would post a picture of if I could but it is not suggestive at all. You know exactly what it represents. And it is probably carved from a Marshall Texas Enfield...d2

I just found some lead today that needs identified. It reads Royal, but it prolly had more to it :dontknow:.

I think this is a seal..

I agree. Is it about the size of a dime or smaller?

Can you see any rust spots around the edge where the wire would have been?

No rust marks, it looks as if it was just smashed and than stamped.

You have done well for the short time you have hunted CW relics. In Middle Tenn., you find a good carved bullet about every 100-150 dropped bullets. There's a big difference between whittled on bullets, carved bullets, and soldier art. Relic dealers tell me that carved bullets were plentiful at shows 5-10 years ago. Now, they rarely see one for sale. Here's part of my dug collection. HH.

You have one heck of a collection there. I like those two in the top row center.
That piece in the fourth row looks like a Scottish Terrier. :laughing9:
Thanks for posting buddy,
Doug

Mike,
Fantastic collection. You're going to need another Riker case soon. ;D Any idea what that flat one with the two holes was used for? Very cool lead. :icon_thumleft:

If I were to speculate I would say maybe a home-made whizzer toy.

Re: CW bullets - Carved & lead oddities - ***SHOW US YOURS***

There is some really cool stuff on here.
Here's a few of mine In the first pic is a Williams cleaner that has had a bullet wormer beat into it quite a few times, a game piece, I'm guessing the next is a fishing sinker. In the second row is a bullet that has been carved into a small pitcher or cup, a bottle stopper, and the enlogated one I have no idea. The bottom piece I'm guessing was supposed to have been some kind of whizzer
In the second pic are 2 sharps I dug in the same hole.
The 3rd pic is the best carved lead I've ever dug. I beleive is was carved from an artilery shell sabot. It is about 3 1/2" by 3 1/2" Scratched on the back is
Comp A 116 vol Regt
Thirteen
May 16 1863
The Thirteen is between and actually only slighty above the 16 and 1863. I have no idea what the is supposed to mean. I dug the heck out the spot looking for the horse's and rider's heads but found neither.

Re: CW bullets - Carved & lead oddities - ***SHOW US YOURS***

There are some really neat bullets on this post. Mine are not carved, but somewhat oddly sharped. I've posted the Enfield before, but thought it was worthy of a re-post. Any ideas on how #1 & #2 got in that condition? Breezie

The horse is really amazing!

Thanks 4H
I think that horse is one of the coolest things I've dug. It's a shame the guy wrung off the heads of the horse and rider.

Breezie. Your first bullet looks like a blown out Gardner. They were evidently not molded well sometimes and the noses would blow out when they were fired. The second bullet is a fired Williams cleaner that hit something at close range

I don't know if someone tried to make something out of this or if its just a glob of lead.
