Finally we got some rain and the ground was not like cement anymore. Also the temperature was no longer in the 90s with the terrible humidity so I decided to go out for a couple hours. Lucky for me the hunt was successful. However the hook and sling buckle were from a previous hunt at the same location.
I was detecting in a shaded spot when I got a high tone hit on my CTX3030 hunting in the relic mode with minimal discrimination. I dig down about 8 inches and recovered a long iron nail. I was a little perturbed cause the signal was so good but thankful I swung over the same hole again and still got the high signal. I was about 18 inches down when I saw the green looking back at me. All I remember saying was please be a plate. And out pops the sword plate. I was stunned to say the least. There appears to be a makers mark of 887 on the tongue. I have been detecting almost 10 years now and 2018 has been the best. I found a US plate on an old property that I have dug for many years and piece of a SNY plate on another permission but the sword plate is my best so far.
Thanks for reading and happy hunting. Can’t wait for the fall.

I'd love to find one, but it's a bit more difficult to do in New England.
