I went up to my field's with every intention on coming out of there with at least one keeper, about the only field that hasn't been fully planted on this one particular farm with corn, soy and grass that you could get lost yourself in was my "frag" field...Amen!!!This field has given up 75% of all my found fragment's,read, parrott and the 12 lb.'s......That meant dig all iron no matter what....A couple of you guy's know what field I'm talking about  Just about my first swing into the field I picked up a .58,that made my day right there.....90+ and it sucked, sweating from head to toe I finally dug another decent piece of Cannonball.I dug everything from nail's to horseshoe's knowing that this place could yield another "frag" and it did...and it probably won't be the last. Also found a piece of "curry comb",3-.58's,a chunck of lead some old shard's and the old reliable horseshoe. If it wasn't for the frag I wouldn't be that excited.....This was the early part of the Battle of Antietam!!!Saving History A Chunck at a Time.Thank's for looking and HH!!

Way to go, Joe!!!
I leave for one week and you get back into
the civil war era!
That's a nice size of a 12 pounder!!!

That stuff is neat!!

I'd love to find some REAL cw relics instead of "pretend" re-enactor buttons with no back-marks ::)

take care,
watercolor

Bravo on having the perseverance to get out there and make some nice finds!

Excellent shell frag.

Has anyone here ever found enough frags of a artillery shell or canon ball to put one back together? I know that when our club hunted the Springfield farm in Williamsport, enough pieces of a mortar round were found to piece back together about 90% of it.....Not GE
