Found this yesterday while hunting the salt water low tide area. Tide was as low as I've ever seen it and this was at the extreme lowest point. It is heavy but I haven't tried to clean it. Are there any home tests that do not involve acid that i could use to determine the metal? Thanks!

Yeah...brass is what I figured but I'll test it anyway...

Ok...has a specific gravity of 10 (on the dot). Not gold but also more than brass...but pretty close to copper. I guess I'll call it a gold colored copper nugget.

Well brass is an alloy made of copper and zinc.
What did you suspend it with a paper clip?
I wondered about that method ,I would think a fine sewing thread would be better.
Seems to me a paper clip would add metal weight to the metal you are weighing.
But I would say its brass with the majority of it being copper.

Looks like brass, but it could be melted gold. Doesn't look like a natural nugget to me, but it could have been the result of ship fire... I'm still betting on brass, but hoping it's gold.
