This bullet came with some other stuff that I bought several years ago. According to the note that came with the stuff it was found in the north woods of Minnesota in 1934.
It is evident that the bullet is a 38 special. What I would like to know is how old and what type of firearm it would have been used in?

S&W .38 Special was designed in 1902. thats all i have.

so its from 1902-1934

It would have been used in a revolver. Though many references date the .38 special cartridge to 1902 the .38 special was actually first seen in the Smith & Wesson Military & Police revolver in 1899. UMC (Union Metallic Cartridge) produced cartridges and was combined with Remington Arms Company in 1912 (headstamp changed from UMC to REM-UMC), therefore the UMC headstamp on your cartridge indicates prior to 1912.

I don't think you can get closer than saying sometime in 1899 to sometime in 1911.
