A stray tried getting my cat.
It tore part of my cats tail off.
I was going to shoot it, but I prayed about it and caught it and took it to the pound.
Told them what happened and it'll be destroyed anyway.

I feel bad.
I'd like to have kept him, but you can't break a 12+ year old dog of that.

Did I do the right thing ?

Probably, there is much more serious things that could have happened other than getting a piece of tail.

He definitely would have killed my cat.
It looked very hungry and my cat wandered into its nose.
That's why I feel bad, it was just doing what it had to do for potential food.
Maybe he was trained for getting rodents.
Lots of farms and folks with various forms of livestock around here.

It just really bummed me out.

Yes, you did the right thing. A biting dog could have killed a child next. Make sure our cat is up to date on its rabies shots. You never know.

I say keep the Dog, get rid of the cat.

When I was a boy, Dad had a Irish Setter that hated cats, he would tree them and stay there until Dad shot them.

That was in the early 1960's, probably get arrested for that now.

Your Pops sounds like he was an angry Man.
I'm sorry.

About the same time frame
A guy used to visit the family and sic his coon dog on the family cat.

We had a sheep dog, so this one time my father sic'd Skippy on the coon dog.
Well it wasn't a real fare fight as the coon dog couldn't get a bite in for the thick coat.

The guy was all riled up about the coon dog being all messed up-father just said: "Better not sic your dog on my cat then."

Some folks just have a streak of hate in them.

My Dad was a great, kind, caring man.
He loved all the wildlife and song birds more than he loved the trespassing cats.

I lost a beautiful Seal Point Siamese about 10 years back..he
rarely went outside, but liked to sit in the sun on the back porch
once in a while.

As he was sitting there 2 stray dogs came by, chased him down to
the river, and killed him.

I was unbelievably pissed, grabbed my 12ga. and went dog hunting.
Lucky for them, the two dogs escaped the area, BUT, someone else
shot them two days later for killing their cat, as well.

Love dogs, but if a dog goes after my cat, on my land, then there's
gonna be trouble. Our area has far too many pit bulls running around,
and while some are friendly, most are not, and if one comes after me
barking and growling it's likely to be terminated. I would feel awful
about it, but I'd get over it.

Shoot, shovel, shut-up.

I don't hate anything.
The world hates me.
I'm okay with that.

Not the whole world. There are good folks you never met that are concerned about you. You might be surprised.
