You can get used to the "buzz" in the ears all day if you run it were your can barely hear it, like a Threshold. Some will run in all metal and change to disc to see if they want to dig it. This is a waste of time to me as the really deep targets won't sound off in disc anyway so you could miss some good targets doing this.
 

I have a DeLeon and the way I set mine is to adjust the threshold to a good clear steady sound and then turn down the vol. on my earphones until it's not loud at all. It works for me. You get use to the small hum in your ear and then when you pass over something the sound jumps out at you and you know to start digging. ;D
