Well last Sunday 02/19/12 I was out hunting with Bilt36 and Mikewaz in the woods along The river, First time in about 6 months, it looked like a good spot ,very old neighborhood, and we have found older coins here before. So I started looking around, about a half hour out there I got a good hit at 9 inches, it was a little star with writing on it ,I thought it was maybe a charm for a necklace with someoneโ€™s name on it so I put it in my pocket and kept hunting . A little while later I found a Mercury dime, and when I met up with the guys I showed them my finds, and that is when I saw what I had ,I cleaned it off and noticed the seated liberty on the backside of it, at first I thought shoot ,Seated coins are my favorite coins and look what somebody did to this one, I never found a seated half, but after those guys told me how cool and unique this was then I took a good look at it and ,yes it is neat, so they suggested I put it on Treasure Net, So I did when I got home. Mainly to see if maybe anyone knows anything about this star , and yes and show it off, I enjoy reading all the stories, and after 25 yrs of Metal Detecting I felt This was something different to see on hear. and one of my best finds!
So thanks again to everyone for your posts

[mod] We often get asked about the criteria we use when selecting posts that appear in the TreasureNet masthead banner.... While we don't have any firm criteria, we follow these general guidelines...

Finds must be significant, and plausible.
Finds / posts must be RECENT.
Images must be hosted on the TreasureNet server.
Posts with great stories are more likely to be selected.
If the post is one of the members first posts, it is less likely to be selected.
It helps if 20 members don't have you on ignore!
Finds must look good in the banner.

These are the guidelines and nothing more.

For those of you that didn't put your treasure hunting skills to good use, the OP has been a member here for several YEARS, they are not new to this site.

For those of you that have a problem with the finds banner and how items are selected, take it up with admin and stop trashing this thread, or anyone elses for that matter. The OP simply posted an interesting and unique find and some of you start with the insults and back handed compliments. Not everyone is into or obsessed with, making banner as others are and don't feel the need to post long winded stories about how they found something especially if they aren't trying to make banner and are only innocently posting something they think others will find interesting. The OP had no idea his find would make banner nor was he aware of how many of our members nominated it. You have the right to not post on a thread, you have the right to complain to admin when something offends you, you have the right to not be a member here but you do NOT have the right to insult others or trash their threads!!!!!!!! Being it is a seated coin, which is the era of
Love Tokens, my guess it's a Fantasy Piece
created in the 1870's, 1890's period.

I Wonder if it was created at the request of a Deputy Sheriff,
or a child.

Definately a Very nice Find

"age of Love tokens"???What?Love tokens date to around the 1870's(most popular during that period)but seated coins date to the 1830's??Please explain your theory?

Fantastic find!!!!

Love that find. If it was a fantasy piece it would say sheriff not deputy sheriff right? Unless the sheriff made it for his kid. Or it is real. I think it is really a badge. It looks great on the banner too. Congrats.

Fantastic find!!!!

Most altered Silver coins I'v seen date 1875 & 1876 era

most love tokens, Love token bracelets, & Love token Pins
I'v seen
also date to this general Era.

dates not set in stone but My guess.

Not sure where these "seated" love tokens were created,
definately not airports or Bus stations.
Most likley Circus & Carnivals, maybe even Gypsies.

since it is seated, My Guess still stands.

because it dosn't say Deputy Sheriff of
of a particular town, & it's Made from a silver half,
unless the town was destitute, & desperate,
and bought a Love Token Badge for him,
that it was created for a Deputy Sheriff, as a Gift, Bribe,
or Purchase Or for a Child. maybe even as "relic lover"
suggests Sheriff made his son his Deputy :laughing7:

Perhaps someone can era date the Pin clips used
to Confirm or Disprove my Guess on age.

GREAT FIND! CONGRATS! :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

I've seen quite a few Love Tokens but this one is truly unique as far as size and style.

I'd like to know if they have other instances of similar tokens made. Any experts?
