I still find it hard to believe this day.

I found the remains of a pepperbox revolver and 4 seated half dollars all in the same general area of a location I've hunted before. It's pretty shocking because I was to the point where I thought it was hunted out. The wet ground certainly helped. It's a large area active during the late gold rush period so every time I go there I bring back something.

That's the first real gun I've ever found. A mid 1850's Pepperbox is awesome enough. Thanks to the "WHAT IS IT" forum for helping with the ID. Four seated halves in one 3-hour hunt along with the gun makes for an awesome day. But during clean-up finding that the 1866-S "No Motto" coin was one of them makes for a mind-numbing stupendous day. If you are not familiar with that date ... it is the rarest seated liberty half made by the San Francisco mint. Only 240 to 600 are thought to remain in existence and most of those are in really heavily worn or poor condition. It blows my mind to find one metal detecting.

If you don't believe I found all this, I don't blame you. I'm still getting over the shock myself.

For those of you that like videos here is a link that includes footage of the digs.

Always loved the looks of a pepperbox pistol. 4 seated half dollars is crazy, especially one so rare. If this isn't a BANNER find I'd be shocked. Huge congrats, I'm still dealing with frozen ground.

That "no motto" coin just paid for your detector.... :occasion14:

If I stay at lower elevations the ground is moist and perfect for detecting. Good luck with the upcoming detecting season.

Huge Congrats !! Great finds !! Especially love the 1866-S !!!
