Headed off to France this late morning to detect a farm field and to eat some French fries. There is a big notable difference when you cross that line known as the border, I crossed over at Saarbruecken Germany on Autobahn 6 that leads into Metz France. About 10 miles into France I hit a toll road, about $6.00 for the privilege of driving on their highway. Thought about driving into Metz which is a larger city but I was looking for a farm field and a plate of French Fries or Pommes Frites as they are called. I got of the highway and headed towards a town named Boulay, plenty of farm fields around and I wanted to drive through a few villages just for the culture of it all. The small villages are pretty much black and white, not much color to the houses. I drove into a small village, saw another small village in the distance and another up on a hill and then spotted my field to hunt. Here is the French border, not much and you just drive through.

This must be the Welcome to France sign, unless you are French, I do not think anyone is welcome here, especially Americans, LOL!

Driving down the highway, a sign indicating the kilometers to Metz, Nancy and Paris.

Here’s the field I detected between three villages, very sticky mud on these fields.

I did not find much but was very happy to find a French military button with a “26” on it, late 1800s to early 1900s. I think I have another one like it found in Bavaria.

I spotted two open restaurants on the way to the field and thought I would stop on the way home. One was closed when I drove back through and the other was serving drinks/beers/wine but the kitchen was closed, around 03:00PM. I stopped at a gas station/rest area on the highway and got this plate of French Fries, was actually an Ala Carte that I paid for, $8.00, everything but the main meat course. The ketchup tasted more like a tomato soup and all was very good. I will admit, the truck stops/highway restaurants in Europe serve very good meals.

Took this picture of a Shepard and his flock last weekend in Bavaria. I have seen him around since I arrived in Germany almost 22 years ago. Next time I see him I am going to stop and say hello and ask him his secret as I have seen him and his flock disappear several times, LOL. His flock is on a field where a medieval farm once stood near my home. The flock is scattered where four barns once stood, the main house was to the far right of the flock and that is where I found my gold coin and several other nice relics.

A wheat sickle and a few 50 Caliber rounds I found a few weeks ago.

A partial buckle from the 1600s and a small Caliber musket ball I found New Years Day or New Years Eve. Chopped them out of the frozen ground and you can see where I hacked the musket ball.

Obverse of a British 1936 .500 silver One Shilling coin found a few weeks ago.

How does a freak like Barack Obama even get to be a candidate? HH, Mike

Scary isn't it? No qualifications.

This race is absolutely awful... Republican or Democratic, the pickin's is mighty slim :) Just going to have to go for the lesser evil I guess :)

That nonsense aside, great digs as usual. I really envy you... you've got some real history beneath your feet there! I'd love a shot at doing that some day.

Thanks for sharing the finds Mike, excellent as always.
HH and thanks again Mike.

Nice finds, as always
Ahh Germany's beautiful 19% sales tax and the Euro rate keep me on base. I now see that you MD to make ends meet:)

I enjoyed seeing France, but, i was glad to be back in (clean) Germany.

Nice finds- just watch out for the UXOs.

I lived near Trier for a few years (when I was a young & handsome grad student).

Went to Paris quite a bit. Drank lots of wine, kissed some women, sung a few songs, did some drugs.... ::)

Wait! Forget the drugs. That might have been in Amsterdam.

Back to Paris. Yeah.

Nice pics, Nice finds! Thanks for sharing :)

Watching the race for the White House from over here, it looks like the evil of two lessors to me.

Very nice adventure you had, Mike . I remember those toll roads going to Paris. It seemed like you would hit one every few miles. We went to Paris on our anniversary a few years back and I got food poisoning. The city was very unique but the people really kept to themselves. There were alot of places I wanted to hunt over the border but never did due to UXOs from WW1 such as mustard gas and what not. The Romans had villas all over the place there . Lots of treasure to be found for sure.Nice finds for sure.

Hey, didn´t you know, the French won WW II all on their own, England and the States weren´t anywhere to be seen if you believe the French, it was De Gaul (With a tiny bit of help from Le Clerc)

I do hope a Republican wins the election as I make my living anticipating war. How does a freak like Barack Obama even get to be a candidate? HH, Mike

Yikes! Good to see your concern is with the welfare of the HUMANS!!!

My concern really is with the "Humans" and soldiers, that is why you can sleep safely at night, I also get a paycheck out of it and call it a JOB! Have you done anything for your country besides take and expect? I have been doing it for 23 years now. I wish you 1001 corroded zincolns, HH, Mike

Hope you enjoyed your day , great trip and great pics too

pretty common finds and bad shape but as usual in ploughed fields :-\ . Next time you cross the border leave the highway and try to hit some woods at random , I noticed woods produced less finds but in much better shape , and that makes all the difference

I didn't know " pom frittes" they would have served you a big "steack frittes" in my aera but 8 E is very cheap anyway! :o

I will say one think, French Cuisine, and the general friendliness of French people is hard to beat though. I alway´s enjoyed my time in France (OK, I know that although they speak and understand other languages, they usually insist you speak French, so had to learn some of that as well), and I alway´s look forward to traveling there again. I have lots of French friends, and we love to banter, but it´s all done in good nature. It´s a cultural experience, and well worth doing, and the laid back style of meals is great. Where else do you have a two hour lunch break, or sit on a terrace with a farmer and eat local cheese, bread and wine, watching the sun go down, and being made to feel like you´ve known them all your lives. Great place.

If you go to France, you will notice that all the graves of the war dead, of whatever nationality, are kept in an immaculate state. You alway´s have a few bad apples in every land that show no respect for the dead (Or anything else come to that)!!! My own country of England, or The United States, The Benelux States, Germany, Italy, wherever you go, there´s alway´s a few, so please don´t judge all by the actions and words of a few, it doesn´t reflect well on our great countries, or on ourselves.

Although I'm sure it's not the majority who disrespect our dead, but it should be up to the majority to put a stop to it.
Yeah, but the same could be said of my country, your country, and all the other countries I´ve listed. It´s like saying a whole bunch of GMC/Ford/Chrysler is bad, because one of them has a breakdown ! Or that you shouldn´t eat any fish, because once upon a time someone got poisoned by it (And still do). The governments and people of these countries try their best, but unless they drastically curb the liberties of everyone, it will be very difficult to stop. Bit like criminals, to safeguard our freedoms, they are also given rights, unfortunately they misuse them.

Bavaria Mike- Just wanted to thank you for another great post. Love the pictures you take of these places that I'm not likely to otherwise see. I always look forward to your posts! HH-
