Headed off to France this late morning to detect a farm field and to eat some French fries. There is a big notable difference when you cross that line known as the border, I crossed over at Saarbruecken Germany on Autobahn 6 that leads into Metz France. About 10 miles into France I hit a toll road, about $6.00 for the privilege of driving on their highway. Thought about driving into Metz which is a larger city but I was looking for a farm field and a plate of French Fries or Pommes Frites as they are called. I got of the highway and headed towards a town named Boulay, plenty of farm fields around and I wanted to drive through a few villages just for the culture of it all. The small villages are pretty much black and white, not much color to the houses. I drove into a small village, saw another small village in the distance and another up on a hill and then spotted my field to hunt. Here is the French border, not much and you just drive through.
This must be the Welcome to France sign, unless you are French, I do not think anyone is welcome here, especially Americans, LOL!
Driving down the highway, a sign indicating the kilometers to Metz, Nancy and Paris.
Here’s the field I detected between three villages, very sticky mud on these fields.
I did not find much but was very happy to find a French military button with a “26” on it, late 1800s to early 1900s. I think I have another one like it found in Bavaria.
I spotted two open restaurants on the way to the field and thought I would stop on the way home. One was closed when I drove back through and the other was serving drinks/beers/wine but the kitchen was closed, around 03:00PM. I stopped at a gas station/rest area on the highway and got this plate of French Fries, was actually an Ala Carte that I paid for, $8.00, everything but the main meat course. The ketchup tasted more like a tomato soup and all was very good. I will admit, the truck stops/highway restaurants in Europe serve very good meals.
Took this picture of a Shepard and his flock last weekend in Bavaria. I have seen him around since I arrived in Germany almost 22 years ago. Next time I see him I am going to stop and say hello and ask him his secret as I have seen him and his flock disappear several times, LOL. His flock is on a field where a medieval farm once stood near my home. The flock is scattered where four barns once stood, the main house was to the far right of the flock and that is where I found my gold coin and several other nice relics.
A wheat sickle and a few 50 Caliber rounds I found a few weeks ago.
A partial buckle from the 1600s and a small Caliber musket ball I found New Years Day or New Years Eve. Chopped them out of the frozen ground and you can see where I hacked the musket ball.
Obverse of a British 1936 .500 silver One Shilling coin found a few weeks ago.
Reverse of the coin. HH, Mike
