Detecting during a work week

How many of you find the time to detect specifically after work, even if it's only for an hour or two? I was thinking of doing this, but only after the sun went down, since it's the only time I could find parking at the beach. I'd also have to hunt in the wet or dry sand; I'm obviously not going in the water after dark. And once I got back, I'd have to go straight to bed, since I have to get up so early. I'm weighing whether it's worth the trouble or not.

Noooo! Everything was perfect when I got to the beach. Easy parking, lots of daylight left, the sea was calm, it was low tide, no other detectorists out.... I got in the water, and within about ten minutes I had my first hit. What a difference from the beach down the road, when I'd hunt all morning and not get a single signal. I got a pair of sunglasses from the hit. Then about five minutes later, I got another signal. But before I could dig it up - a storm front moved in, started blowing the waves to high levels, and the rain followed. Everyone left the beach for safety reasons, me included. I think I was crying on the way out.

Don't forget that tip about when a storm or rain moves in, and everyone starts to scatter, that's the perfect time for you to hit the dry's towel line, just gotta be prepared beforehand. When people are panicking and trying to move at lightning speed to get back to their cars, they're gonna be grabbing their stuff and shoving into their beach bags as fast as they can, and that's when a lot of goodies can be lost in the shuffle. Don't know why, but some people like to take their rings off and place them on their towels. In the heat of the moment, they forget the rings are on the towel, and there ya go.

Your Manti is waterproof, just make sure to take a hat & light rain jacket with hood with you. Unless lightning bolts are slamming close by, I'd try to stay as long as possible to hit the dry towel line, at least make a quick pass or two. That's the type of situation that could be a great opportunity for you, and you probably had no competition. That's one of those situations we could call being the right person, in the right place, at the right time.

Same here. I've hunted when a hurricane was passing by. People get wet at the beach, so what's a little rain? And wind, no biggie unless it's strong enough to hurl boards and objects at me. But lightning, that's a different story, better safe than sorry. My Sovereign Elite & X-Terra Elite both have metal shafts. But I'll be ordering a carbon fiber shaft for my Dual Field PI, so at least I won't be touching metal if lighting strikes close by before I can get back to the truck, lol.
