Round Ball - Small.webp

Is this a round ball shot from an old rifle or pistol?

I found this at a site that dates back to the early 1800s. It's about a half-inch in diameter, heavy, and rings up as a 65 VDI on my AT Pro. You can see a slight seam on the edge where it was cast.

Assuming it is a round ball, it's the first one I've found. It's smaller than others I've seen, so I'm wondering if this might be from a pistol instead of a rifle.

Thanks for looking - HH!

If it is lead, then yes it is a roundball from a blackpowder firearm. Pistol or rifle is impossible to say. Smaller doesn't mean pistol, both were made in a vast array of calibers. I always love to find roundballs, nice!

A nice find from an old smooth bore gun - at least 200 years old.

Congrats! I found my first one a few weeks ago. Those things are heavy for their size!

Looks legit to me!, congrats

Looks like a 50 caliper musket ball from/for a rifle to me, nice find.

Thanks for the quick replies, everyone!
