does anyone out there know about different frequencies,,,Minelab claims there detectors go deeper when you change them,,,,is this a fact or a myth,,,,the X terra 705 Has three frequencies,,,,,My detector has a range setting from 8khz to 60khz on one knob,,, I need to test it some more But I am skeptical on this,,, does anyone know the facts.

It's a fact that different single frequencies can be used effectively for greater depth, and for more sensitivity to high and low conductors. You'll find reams and reams of info on this here in archived threads, and on the internet. The 705 uses three different coils tuned to three different frequencies, I think the gold nugget coil operates around 18kHz.

No such thing as a free lunch. Lower frequencies reach deeper but are less sensitive to smaller objects. Detectors designed for small gold nuggets usually have a higher frequency. Happily circuitry and algorithms make up a lot of a detector's abilities and most are designed around coins.

Which can you see further off? A 100W lazer on a single frequency or a 100W incansescent light bulb on a wide multiple spectrum range of visible light?

That is a lot of digging. I have a Minelab 70, hard to learn how to use it, but, it is a great detector.
