Hello All,
Well, seems like most of the time I go detecting with DiggerGirl she puts a skunk on Shane and I. Well, it was our day to dig and Shane got there early to hit the cane fields some before we came to join him. Still continuing the grid on our straggler field before the cane gets too tall to finish. At any rate, Shane had headed home before we got there. He was interested in football, or some silly sport, and DG and I were interested in digging! Well I kept joking with Shane on the phone that I wasn't leaving the field until I dug a pelican button. After seeing two of them come up from this field, I started to believe that we were dealing with a discarded coat. Well, this find today confirms it!
No sooner were we in the field 10 minutes than DiggerGirl yells out that she's got something good. I went over and saw Confederate Louisiana Button #3 in her glove! This was her first CS item! She was on cloud nine for the rest of the hunt! This Pelican is the same style and manufacture as the other two from the field.
I was just trying to find anything to put in my display case. I knew I'd have little hope to equalize on such a great recovery, and she'd found it so quickly it was destined to be her day. I ended up with some GawGag, pack studs, and the one redeemable find of the day for me was the cloak clasp with a leaf pattern (brass, lower left). Also got a great seal cuff button, strangely enough with all the gilding remaining. Got a grubby wheat penny, some pipe stems, and the matching pewter knob to one I found earlier in the summer.
Here are DiggerGirl's finds. Piece of yet another different spur. I think we're up to 7 or 8 different spurs from this field alone. Also a melted marble (they burn the cane stubble after harvest down here), and I think she may have also gotten her first Trade Bead. Anybody ever seen one in that color before? This one is faceted and made of glass.

When we got home, we cooked up some shrimp stock, made some fresh bread, and whipped up Shrimp Creole! Here are some photos of dinner, which we'd like to dedicate to Quindy and Dman. Can't wait for you two to join us for some great diggin and Fantastic food!
