Digging nickels rewards me with not gold but a silver quarter

Figured I would check in since I haven’t posted any finds in nearly a month. Still detecting but my past few water hunts have bombed and all Im left with are pounded parks/schools. Hope to get in some good fields this fall. Until then, I found my first rosie of the year on Monday at one school and tonight I went to dig some nickels at another. I dug a 1963 nickel, rescanned the hole and got a great signal under where the nickel was and out came the 1951 GW. It had been totally masked by the nickel Old timers missed that one for good reason

I always recheck the holes. Many a searcher missed that silver, because they wouldn't dig the Nickel signal. Nice job.

Well, about the old timers missing that for "good" reason? I think you're right because one thing that tends to come with getting old is getting *LAZY* ! LOL!

Oh, and about the "pounded parks etc"?

Don't let that bother you one of my very best coins, (an 1812 capped bust half dollar. In excellent shape), came into the light from in front of a very modern day, soccer goal at a new sports complex, recreation area.

LOL. I meant guys that are old now skipped the nickel signals back in the early days of metal detecting when they were younger and all the high tones were silver. Honestly though this school was probably never hammered like I have hit it with all the silver I found in the front of it and the decent amount Ive found in the back of it. I actually found my oldest US silver(1837 half dime) in this field too. Don't know if it was dropped much later or dropped when this area was still woodland/farmland as I have found very little else of that age here.

Good job, Toasted. I did the same thing a couple years back searching an area that had been cleaned out...except for some nickel signals. I had a hit that was real wide and I'm thinking it might be a chain. I dig a plug and the first coin out was a silver quarter. There were three nickels spread out a little after that. The nickels were totally masking the quarter. Also, in the same area I got another deep nickel hit and out came a war nickel sandwiched together with a merc!
That was a good day...HH ALL!
