While traveling to a new hunting site I saw an old man mowing his lawn. We stopped and asked for directions and talked a little about what we were doing. I gave him one of my business cards. He reads my card then he goes on to tell me a story. He begins by telling me when his little girl was 2 he was trying to get her to go to town but she didn't want to go and began throwing a tantrum so he reaches in his pocket and gives her a Kennedy half dollar. His daughter then threw the coin in the yard. He said he and his wife looked for the coin a while then they went to the store. The old man said they looked for the half dollar on and off for the next 40 years. So we part ways and me and my girlfriend spend the next hour or so digging clad and junk at our new site. It's about an hour before dark and I tell her let's try to find that half dollar. We go back to his home knock and say we'd like to find your lost coin. The old timer said sure and walks us to the back yard. We begin scanning the small yard and my girlfriend says she has a good signal. Myself and the eager old man run over as she begins digging. There in the plug is a tarnished 1974 Kennedy half dollar. My girlfriend hands it to him and says here you go. He says no it's yours you found it. Then we convince him of the special memory and he agrees to keep it and says I'm giving it to my daughter AGAIN. So before we part ways we snap a few pictures and he asks for more of my cards to give to friends and family. One of the best days digging so far.
