This is were I said screw it. Created by fire, forged by fire, this dumb thing is gonna get cleaned with fire. Threw it in tbe wood stove for about 8 minutes.

This is me easily cracking off the remainder of the rust... Took all of 6 minutes..

And after Alil wire brushing, soap, water and a scouring pad, and Alil coconut oil to polish off remaining rust dust ... I don't know if it's safe to do.... But can't argue with the result ;)

wow Mrs. Snow, I bow to your resolve. I only hope I am never the target of your ire or I have no hope of escape. You are one hard- I mean determined person.
I hope your ancestors fought on the blue side or the outcome would have been in doubt.

but I love the stuff you find, even if not valuable monetarily, it is historically

told ya electro works, you did a great job! congrats your work paid off big...

Scott , sounds like the electro didn't please her. Hence all the other work. I'm only sorry she used so much of her tanning oil on it.

It's coconut oil... You cook with it.... And only used a drop and rinsed it off... That's pretty much natural

nothing smells better on skin tanning in the tropical sun near palm trees than coconut oil. Am I right? or am I right?

plus it makes a decent pomade, if i do say so myself

I would have probably gave up after soap and water

Never did figure it out. Most on here thought blacksmith tool of some sort...

Holly, I believe the blacksmith tool is correct- It is called a 'hardee',and is inserted into a blacksmith anvil- tapered end of yourtool into tapered square hole in anvil. The cutting edge now faceing up, where by the blacksmith can cut off (most likely) or shape a hot bar of metal by placeing it on the 'hardee' and striking it with a hammer. Great find- keep digging- that anvil might be there.HH yelnif...

tool shed work shop

Holly, because of some of your posts' I think you may be on an old tool shed or farmers work shop. Can you see any definition of a foundation? HH yelnif...

We ruled that out due to fact it's 6 inches in length. The stem part is not shaped to fit into the rectangular holes in an anvil, and the sides of the stem part , has grooves .... As if to fit into some sort of handle

Well my neighbors 200 plus year old barn sat right in my front yard, till sadly it burnt down last year .

A very worn Adze?

hope you get it IDed , with the shoulders on it and the bevel it sure looks like it was made for a purpose..
id hate to think it was a unfinished item that never was finished .

I guess that all depends on whose skin it's on--yes by all means Miss Snow, please do not waste your Bain de Soleil on your iron relics :laughing7:
