Before I head out to the field for my Environmental lab (collecting and testing water samples for Biological Oxygen Demand), thought I'd post real quick. How do you guys display your artifacts (in your home)? My husband and I want to put our stuff out so we can view it. Right now it's all in bowls and ziplock bags laying in a corner of the living room. Its starting to consume space :0 Most of it is large pieces, so we can't frame and hang on the wall. If you have pictures, please share with me.

Hope I stay focused on the lab today. We are pulling the samples from Old Hickory Reservoir/Cumberland River. I know me, I'm gonna be scoping the area out and putting a rock or two in my pocket :)

I keep mine on glass shelves, recessed into the walls like a medicine cabinet. I like to be able not only to see them but to hold them if I want to as well.

I like the idea of glass shelves. Do you have a mirror back?

Michaels Craft stores sell display cases in maroon and black frame that you can hang on a wall like a picture. They open by unlatching and the front is on hinges. Behind the glass front is a white material that you can lay your points on. we have a dozen or so of them to display our points and beads. We wait for the 40% off sale .

Some use the corner type curio cabinet type for dispalys. I have a book shelf type that works quite well and I have a coffee table that the glass removes from the top with drawers underneath. I also use small black type of frames for the smalls. Ill give you a pic of some I own. I also use nice baskets if I want them to be loose so I can pick them up as I want to every now and then. Its a mess rite now.

Here's a few pics of my artifact room to give you a few ideas. I use display cases, frames, curio cabinets, and shelves to display my pieces.

I use an antique globe book case and metal locking cabinets with drawers. Specimen cabinets do well. Everything else goes into a riker and is stacked up. If you leave them on open shelves it is hard to dust. I use lit glass corner curio cabinets for my civil war relics. They are not as fragile. You can quickly turn your home into a museum if you are not careful.
I have fished your area. Bring home a Cumberland.
Let us know on what you decide.

I hope to find something nice :). The Overstreet guide has several pieces from my county (Robertson). I didn't bring anything home today, didn't have time to look :(
