Yesterday morning, I played in the awesome, Ancient Cherokee National Forest...

I did celebrate prively, with one ice cold PBR, and took some great
pics, in the early (for me sometimes anyway) morning sunlight,
and had a great time and journey to the past. Thanked, and
really enjoyed my good time. Was a special time, though
I was a bit burnt, driving all them miles, past Columbia,
I saw a Franklin sign, the turn off to my Aunts and
lots of Southern cousins' places, and there it was,
all lit up, the Music City, shinin' colorful, lookin'
real good, for an ex rural big city, long since
country guy. So I finally found a free Wi-Fi,
at Mc Donalds south of towne, and posted,
on my way South to the ancient Spirit Lands,
of so many of US still here, Our Great Spirited,
Brave and True, Noble Treasured Fathers.... Coolness... :sunny: :fish:

What happened to my good friend Relevent,
lost in the shuffle? I hope I didn't do anythin'
ta' turn me good brother away. If so, it was
for surely, totally unintentional...

I guess Don Jose just doesn't really like me anymore...

I miss Judy's input and support... She turned me down...
Tho, the True Cherokee Princess, did say I 'made her smile',
and that was my main intention, I declare... Though I never
have laid eyes on, or ever kissed a Real Kinship, Spirited and
Feisty Cherokee Princess Blood Sister, or who knows maybe
that wasn't just a dream...8-) :sunny: :fish:

Hmmn, kinda' sounds like some more lyrics for my
Cherokee Moon song I'm happily workin' on...

Thanks for the reply. I spend a lot of time out on the lake fishing. The cypress trees at dusk can add a mysterious element to the atmosphere. The sight and sounds of the critters of the lake and swamp land can be very un-nerveing if you are not familiar with them. My wife tells the tale of a witch that was drowned in the lake. That will make herself seen at times. Never have seen her and don't want to. Have seen several things that I don't know that I can ever explain. A lot of stories of ghosts and Haunts. Civil war and moderators, regulator conflicts, run away slaves, Indian burial ground and drownings on the lake. Being Native American we have our own legends. Spirits and ghosts do play a part in our belief system.

I will post up some more accounts of things that I have had experienced. No need to lie for lies have to be covered up but truth can run around naked all day.

Senior Deacon

What Native American tribe do you belong to, if you don't mind me asking. I know you've lived in Iowa and a few years back I got in touch with a couple of people from the Fox tribe about an historical matter.

I will still reply to Coazon, Alamosmoon, Senior Deacon,
directly, and thanks for your input... I am, enjoying all of
these running, trickling, peaceful water sounds, the red
and blue birds flying by and landing, etc.

Just wait till you see the creek and landscape, awesome!
I told my brother Michael yesterday, that when I can,
I am moving, or buying another place, close by here.
Cause it's so nice, and I like to see my brother, to
talk an laugh with them (his family) more often.

I don't know why, they treat me like royalty.
When I am just a humble guy, that plays and
sings sometimes, and I saw them smile on
this wonderful porch yesterday, me burnt
pretty good, and still playin' and singin'.

I don't know, I'll study on it some more,
I am really blessed, when I play and
sing, people really feel somethin'
say I'm soundin' good, even when
I know I'm not polished, but I do
know they don't just say that. I
am my own sharpest true critic... :sunny: :fish:

Crosse De Sign Late to the campfire. Been reading this thread for a hour or so. Will do the videos later. I live on one of the most beautiful lakes in the state of Texas , Caddo Lake. One of my neighbors down the lake is a guy by the name of Don Henley is a musician of note. Never got to meet him but has been past his place a lot on the way to the lake camp.

As far as the spirits yes. I got stories after 40 years you are bound to have some. Heck living out here in Texas Bigfoot country got some stories there. We live on the lake about a half mile on the lake from where the Mittie Stephens went down and the place was renamed the Death Hole. BURNING OF THE STEAMBOAT MITTIE STEPHENS
It is said that on a calm windless night in the middle of summer just at dark you can hear a steam whistle on the lake from the Mittie Stephens. Last year the neighbor came over to visit about dragging the road. We were talking and all of a sudden we heard the sound of a old steam whistle coming from the lake. We quite talking and stood there looking at one another. We both said I don't believe that I just heard what I did. There was a legend that there was a safe on board that had $100,000 in gold. It was never recovered which is not true.. Have enjoyed this thread still more to go.

Senior Deacon

Hello Senior Deacon,

I reckon you're right on time, especially if you
do read some posts that you enjoy. Thanks for
the visit, and for the stories, very interesting,
and mysterious...

Mr. Don Henley, Ahh Yes, I know that name...

He is one of my favorite Singer/Songwriter/Performer/Vocalist/Artists
In fact, in me top five, as one of the most prolific songwriters...

I do a fair rendition of 'The End Of The Innocence', and really
like most of his work with The Eagles. I kinda' figure that he
may have had some connection to some Infamous Southerners
of days gone by, for reasons in some lyrics, and the strength
of which he sings about it too, the references he has made...

Anyway, I have told some about my personal, and family stories,
and naturally have some held back for all of the reasons. I hope
you do enjoy, and sorry for those stories that I hastily edited,
to a bare skeleton. Just wasn't sure what would happen next,
the way that I express so many things, knowing that it isn't
always the safe way to go, but nevertheless, do what
is not necessarily the careful, cautious, easy route...

Again, thanks for your input, take care, and welcome
to the Treasure Spirits Campfire, and hope you visit,
whenever you get ready to, and enjoy, or critique,
whatever, the floor is always subject to input...
Thanks... :sunny: :fish:

To mdog I am Mohawk and Seneca my wife Eastern Cherokee and Cheyenne. One of her ancestors was Cheif Red Bird. Her grandmother was a healer in the old tradition. My great grandmother was also. She knew all the herbs and yarbs as she said. We kids were sick we would go to great grandmother's drink a tea or some other concoction and we were well in no time. Great grandmother cured for free for everyone. Most people lived because of her cures not in spite of them. Sounds as if the wife's grandmother was the same way. My great grandmother was 98 years old when she passed. To old to teach me. Been having to go to the medical doctors no telling how much harm they have done to me.

Fox and Sac people were native to Iowa. The Lakota Sioux were in the north west part of the state. Don't think that they thought to much of our people because the women ruled choose who would be Cheif. Families would take the mother clan not the father's. I think that they thought we were weak.

We were of the Hawk clan that I know for sure. As I grow older I gain a greater appreciation for the native side of my family. We had a great spiritual up bringing in both the native and Christian tradition.

Ok I have a few Bigfoot stories. I will tell one that concerns me. Our house sits a block from the Caddo Lake Wildlife Refuge and about two blocks from Caddo Lake. There is just a couple of cabins between us and lake we have a great view of the lake. The other way is our dirt now mud road then the blacktop road to town then the 8,837 acre refuge. One of my neighbors has been here his whole life except for 4 years of college. He says there are places in the refuge that nobody has seen for fifty years. It is rough country, swampy, and dense forest not to be entered into without some knowledge and preparation. When I first moved here I started to go out with the dogs at dusk and would do some wood knocking. After about a week of this the neighbor ask me to stop. I told him that I wanted to see if a Bigfoot would answer. He told me to keep it up and I would have him in my front yard. I kept it up on and off for about a month or so. One night I got a answer that sounded very close. Told Mr. Keats that I got answer he told me to stop NOW. For about two months afterwards I felt as if something was always watching our place. Needless to say I quite wood knocking. I have never did it again and won't even split wood except with a power splitter. Ledges true or not are to be respected. You may think that you are big and bad , standing tall and taking names until you come up against something that you don't quite understand.

Now every once in awhile I still get the feeling that we are being watched from something in the refuge.

Howdy senior deacon,

Glad you came to share some stories with us, here:coffee2:have some good ol sock coffee. Anyone else :coffee2::coffee2::coffee2::coffee2::coffee2:? I had just been looking into our Texas lakes yesterday. One of my son's had brought some red fish from Brauning Lake, and cooked them last night. I didn't even know we had red fish in lakes, I always thought they were only in the Gulf. He was telling me how much the lakes around here were filling up with all this rain, and I did a search on Texas lakes. Found out that Caddo Lake is the only natural lake in Texas. Some say it's the most beautiful lake in America.

That must of been something, to hear the old steam whistle together. About an hour's drive from here, we have the Espantosa Lake, which means haunted, or scarey lake. Many have heard a wagon coming their way, they never return there.

Homar

Howdy Coazon,

Red Fish eh? What kind are they...

Interesting story, and I saw a special, I think it was the Caddo Lake,
so I will see if I can find it, and if so, I'll post it, was pretty interesting...

Thanks Amigo...

First coffee offer in a while, so thanks, since

some people don't seem to want to drink coffees

at this camp, maybe with me, probly figured out, me heathen

side. I don't know, but it's no problem, they probly have there reason,

and that sure is good enough for me, but there's always plenty enough. :dontknow: :sunny: :fish:

Here it is, senior deacon, coazon, and everyone, pretty cool,
how he thinks and feels about the lake. Similar to what you
are saying, and I wonder what else Don Henley might have
to say about the place, in the right environment. I know,
maybe we could get a message to him, let him know
what a huge fan I am, and invite him to visit the
Treasure Spirits Camp, who knows what he
might enjoy sharing, would undoubtedly
be interesting. Even if he said you are
all kinda' krazy, be worth a try, reckon... :sunny: :fish:

Whoot-Whoot. I just got back to the campfire. Settling down with some of Coazon's cafe de tootsies. Pretty flavourful stuff, I must say.

Wow. The steam whistle. Always a good moment when another hears the exact same thing. A pretty defining moment, for sure.

It seems we've all been enjoying some time around plentiful watering holes. We've spent the week at our lake. Goes way back, too, when the Indians used to call this place home. They enjoyed it (as I do) as it is spring fed.

Others seems to enjoy it as well. Nobody from The Mittie Stephens, nor the whistle. Just the sounds from a nightly symphony of frogs, the swish of a big bass tail, or the slight rustling of a mother gator nesting covertly upon the aside of the bank.

To the immediate east, we have the swamp. Not completely sure what is lurking in there at 3:30 a.m., but since it is mating season, I will stay right where I am.

But, this too, is a fine campsite should we ever choose one for the gang. We have a gigantic fire pit with many benches to go around and deliver our tales in the moonlight.

Marshmallow, anyone? :)

Mrs. Jodie,

... ~: Yes, a defining moment indeed. Sometimes I do wish,
well you know, that others knew :~ ...

... ~: Wow, sounds like a very interesting lake for sure...
Very kind and generous of you to share your experiences,
and those sounds that you described would keep me in my
camper. No, not a chicken, probly bigger an' tastier than that...

Thanks, maybe one day there will be an opportunity, to have
that Spirited Treasure Tales campfire, but I think I've shared
'bout all of mine tales. Tho' maybe like you, I might also have
one or two tucked away, hidden up my sleeve, oh that's me
'lil pistola. Well maybe hidden away in my brain, yeah reckon
I should be able to pull somethin' up, but am a fairly good,
smiley listener also... Take Care, an' watch out for them :~ ... :sunny: :fish:

Hard to post with sticky marshmallow fingers, but the red fish, are red drum. They are a saltwater fish, but can survive in warm freshwater lakes, they just can't reproduce in freshwater. :coffee2::coffee2::coffee2::coffee2::coffee2:
