Someone has accessed our wireless internet service, I think one of the neighbor kids has gotten my password and I would like to know who.

I'm worried about what they would be surfing( teenagers, if you know what I mean) because I work online and it could have a negative effect on me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, wish I could help you, but I'm a fish out of water when it comes to computers. Unless someone here can help you, you may have to go to an outside source/company and pay them to help you. :dontknow:

I figured out how to trace it through google, I found out it was one of the teenage neighbor boys and he was looking at pornography sites and that is something I DO NOT want showing up on my wireless connection. MC, I did change the password.

Thank you for your input MC and Spart.

No need for you to ask for the website address Spart, I won't give it out. :tongue3:

Don't know if you know this or not but it is illegal to steal internet access just as it is for cable tv etc.

Try this, courtesy of my son.

Step 1: Get the ip of the person or the url of the place.

Step 2: Go to start, run and type "cmd" hit enter.

Step 3: In the command prompt type; tracert [target] then hit enter.

Step 4: After getting the real ip of the target which will be the very last ip in the [] (brackets) Go to www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer After the page loads enter the ip in the given field and BAM you know where it is located.

That second link goes further into detail.

IP search addresses only give you the location as in town or city. It doesn't give you enough information to get a street name. Best thing you can do is get a program that you can install on your computer to hide your IP address that way no one would be able to get it. Especially if you search the internet and you get those spam e-mails, etc, because they take your IP address and that is how most of them send you junk.

The program runs anywhere from $70-$100 but well worth it.

Reset your modem and change your password. Since you've already been compromised on your wireless, get rid of the thing and go hardwire with a LAN in your home.
This is exactly why I would never use a wireless network. There are people who drive around with those little wireless detectors until they find someone's home wireless, then pull over and tap in. You can buy one of those detectors for a few dollars at Best Buy and Radio Shack.

SS, you can drive around the block with your pc wireless enabled for what that's worth, and detect wireless connections; I'm not an expert, but aren't most wireless connections security encrypted with a multi-digit passcode?
