What's the other side look like, just plain?

The smaller piece looks like part of a suspender clip, but never seen the big pice as a buckle part.

Does the smaller piece connect to the larger piece. It appears to have small tabs at the end of the smaller piece that may line up with the holes in the larger piece. Similar to a clipboard...just guessing here! If so, it may be some kind of cinch device for a strap!

I agree, but, it does have the ears found on many suspender buckles. Very odd shape...
