Does anyone own a "haunted house"

Feel free to share your encounters. My current house (moving next week to a new house, after living in the old one for 12 years) is quite haunted. It was built in the 1880's to a shoe factory worker. Anyways, everyone in my family has seen the ghost of a 9 year old girl, an 80 year old woman, and a very negative spirit of an old man. My new house is much older, it was already an established farm in 1779, and probably built between 1750 and 1775 (deed only go back to the mid 1770's, can't trace farther than 1779). The first experience there was when I was stuck with the deeds, tracing back the wrong house. All of a sudden the name "Abel" popped in my head. Sure enough a man with the first name Abel lived there between 1779 and 1816. He had 6 children in the 1790's, including one who later had the house for 30 years. Anyways, Today after a historic barn contractor was looking at the barn (which had some wood salvaged from the 1600's), and was talking about uses reclaimed wood to put the stalls in and fix supports, I decided to take some photos of the house. The current people living there have two very young girls, who I though were at home with there mom probably. Anyways, while taking photos a young (4 years old or so) girl wear a ruffed blue and white dress appeared at the window and smiled at me, looking to see what the people outside were doing. Before disappearing. I was sure it was the owner's girl so I stopped taking photos so I wouldn't freak her out. A few minutes later the owner got home, with his two girls. It will be cool to spend the night there, who knows what else I will experience in a house with that much history. Four or five owners between 1779 and 1900, and probably around 20 children, 5 sawmill workers, and the owners spouses. Who has some haunted house stories?

My dad claims his house is haunted. I've never seen anything, and I've looked!! haha. But my mom(divorced now) had seen it, my step mom,step brother and other family members have claimed to have seen it.

The house was built in the 1880's, a lot of my family members have been born and died in it. They would even hold funerals in the front room. Or wakes. back in the day.

After my mom saw it she claims she became very ill. From what everyone tells me, It's a black shadowy floating man with no legs or any that you can make out. He also is in late 1800's early 1900's dress. I'm guessing everyone thinks this because they claim the hat is from that period.

I'm not so sure I believe in it....But I'm still open to the idea. I think it's one of those things that one person thought they saw something and then it spreads over the years and any little thing the "ghost" gets the credit for. The house settles and makes a noise...it was the ghost....a shadow....it's the ghost!!!

The only things I can ever remember growing up was when I was a little kid, I thought my bed was shaking and yelled for my parents. Doors would open and close, but it was an old airy house. The wind blows and curtains moved. So, I really think what I remember as a kid is just a bad dream or who knows.

As I got older I tried to research it and even looked, waited up late nights looking for this thing that everyone else saw. I almost started feeling left out at one point. As a teen I tried everything in the books. I've never seen a thing.

But who knows! Maybe it is haunted! My dad gets angry when I joke about it and says "Don't mess with it, He's not hurting anything. I don't want it to leave!" He thinks it was one of our early ancestors. His great, great grandfather. He was the first one that died in the house. My Grandfather claimed the same thing and my Grandfather was a straight shooter that really didn't believe in that kind of stuff. But He claimed he saw it when he was growing up living there. So...Who knows!

If you ever have unwanted Spirits/Ghosts, etc... SMUDGE 'em out! I do it, & it works! BUT! It does stink like POT... you MIGHT get BUSTED! LOL!

OMG - I love watching shows relating to ghosts but I must admit - AIN'T NO WAY I WOULD LIVE IN A HOUSE WITH A GHOST!

I didn't own a haunted house but a friend did. It sat vacant all year long until halloween, when we would re-construct the passageways, horror features, and surprise hiding spots. Every year we'd re-do the house so the public would get a different experience. The first year I worked in the house as a monster. I ended up getting ear plugs on break because the mask would amplify my own shouts and screams and hurt my ears. My buddy made enough money in one week to pay the annual property taxes, rebuild the show, donate to the needy, and then let it sit empty until next Halloween.

I love haunted houses. Working in them is a blast! Building them is even more fun!

There is a really good place with tons of great ones near me. Some take 5 minutes to walk through and are completely terrorizing. I rarely get scared by these things, but I was running and screaming even the second time through. The people working in it were truly having a great time. While waiting in line a man with a chainsaw would sneak up behind you and rev it really loud.

We were going to do that for the very negative, perhaps demonic, man (that's what he appeared like at least, but he could easily shift shapes) that haunted the upstairs bedroom. I remember waking up and seeing a normal person, then it walked closer and morphed into a horrible disgusting mutated figure. Getting closer before disappearing. Almost my whole family has seen him. We were going to cleanse the house after dealing with the presence for nine years (one bad experience each year or so, including showing my favorite cat dying on the ground with huge fangs to freak me out). When my uncle passed away though, the presence was gone. I can sometimes feel my uncle around, I felt him around a ton within the weeks he died. I assume that he was the one who rid the house of the bad presence, he is not a guy you would wan't to mess with, and very good to his family. He once opened a closet and made an old happy birthday balloon float out in front of us during a birthday (a few days after he died).

After over a month I haven't really noticed much, I was able to trace the land back to 1740, and found out that the man who owned the land moved to this part of my town during and built a homestead in the early 1740's, which still stood as of 1880 (the date of the book I was reading). My dad was helping out making some stalls and ran out from under the barn terrified, claiming that he saw a man sitting there (who slowly faded away), he is an extreme skeptic.

I have never seen a ghost or anything else out of the ordinary. I really wish I would, for the sake of those who claim to have. So far I have experienced nothing that would leave me to believe otherwise. I don't believe it unless I actual see it for myself.

Then you have that "haunted objects" show that was on a few years ago. That was totally bogus. I buy (sometimes very personal) items from dead people all the time at estate sales. If there was such a thing as a haunted object, my house would be crawling with spirits, or at least one, over the 20+ years I've spent buying/selling and collecting dead peoples things.

I agree, what about the relic hunters who find civil war bullets, maybe one of them ended someone's life. Or the people who dig very personal items someone might have loved very much. I don't see any relic hunters on here claiming that their finds are haunted. I do a lot of antiquing and relic hunting, and still haven't seen any proof that there is such thing as a "haunted object".

I know this is an old thread but yes I have owned a house that was haunted
My wife and I owned a house in Ohio that was built in 1889 things would disappear and then weeks later reappear my wife was in the basement one time going through some plastic bins looking for some paper work I was standing off to one side of her she was sitting on a ice chest we had one of those that had wheels and a handle you could pull it around with instead of having to carry it the handle on the ice chest while my wife was sitting on it started going up and down and not softly it was banging the side of the chest we would hear music from the 40s or 50s era playing you would go outside to see if there was someone driving by playing music from that time period and there would be nothing i would get up in early morning and go down stairs while sitting there drinking a cup of coffee on the couch I would feel something tap me on the shoulder thinking it was my wife I would turn around and there would be nothing there would go back upstairs and my wife would still be sound asleep our dogs would be laying around and all of a sudden they would jump up and start barking at things on the ceiling there would be nothing there and one of the dogs was deaf so I know he was not hearing anything we would hear noises like someone was walking up the stairs and just all kinds of stuff none of it ever really bothered me except one event which did scare the crap out of me

one night I was woke up three times from a dead sleep with something whispering to me in my ear and each time all I would hear was I would kill it slowly after the third time this happened I got up and went down stairs thinking to myself I do not know what you would kill slowly but it is not going to be me my wife had already got up and went down stairs so I know it was not her

i don't own one but i've spent the night in one i heard foot steps on the stairs my grandmothers cat has a little cat toy it carried him down the hall way with him on it my grandpa woke up with scratches all over him. they have had clothes disappear. they had a pond that thing would turn upside down i swear on a stack of bibles it would i don't want to see that house ever again.another thing my grandmother woke up in the middle of the night with a shadowy figure staring over her it freaked her out enough where she got up and and was holding a bible saying i ain't afraid of you

I know this is an old thread but yes I have owned a house that was haunted...

1st thing I would do is grab some fresh shorts and run like the wind! I would write off that house and never ever come back!

Oh wow! This group really does cover it all! I love how both sides contribute to this topic. When my husband rented our first house, as soon as I walked in I felt it. It's a heavy, uneasy feeling I've only felt at Funeral homes. I stopped after a few steps and said Someone died here. He of course thought I was crazy! We moved in and things seemed fine, I convinced myself I was just stressing. He ended up working late at night, I was home first but after dark. I'd go straight to the bathroom and shower. When I came out of the bathroom the TV and more lights were on! I had made sure all the doors were locked so I knew it wasn't normal. I started waiting for him outside. Then it occurred to me, that was a friendly helpful thing to do! I was still not okay with it and when talking with the neighbors found the answer. Our house had been the home of a sweet older lady, who passed in her sleep there. Nothing bad happend but I was sure happy to move out!
Fast forward 20 yrs lol we've lived in our current house for about 15 yrs with 2 daughters. I've always loved it and felt safe here. After purchasing a surveillance system I downloaded an app to save videos on my phone. When I had my husband check it it, he was very concerned! He turned the volume all the way up and said at 2:00am why is there a little girl laughing!? He was really bothered by this! I didn't believe it, I knew there had to be a reasonable explaination! Ends up, as I saved the recording to my phone it picked up the current sounds and added them ��

I lived in a large home in a small Virginia town when I was growing up. The home was a full two story with an attic that had been finished out for the old family patriarch to live in. Every night around ten right over my bedroom I'd hear the sounds of a man kicking his boots off. The first boot always hit the floor on the sole and made a loud clunk. The second boot made the sound of the boot upper hitting the floor first with a muffled thump and then the sole would hit the floor. Never saw anything, never heard anything else I would sleep up there some times but the sound never happened unless I was in my bedroom. Every night the same two sounds in exact order at the same time. Darned fine house though.
