I found a 1916 Mercury dime today, but it is well worn. I can see the date clearly, but on the back, the outer rim is so worn down that I can't tell if there is no mint mark, or an S mark or (gasp) a D mark. Does nic-a-date work, or shouldn't I mess with it? Any suggestions?

No it won't work.

don't use nic-a-date on it, the area you apply the acid will turn black.
