Don't know why I torture myself like this

Just got back from a 3 hour dig and the only good thing that I found was this RR spike remover. That thing weighs 25 lbs and I had to carry it 3/4 mile uphill. It was worth it. It will clean up real good.

Well there's something you don't find everyday!

Re: Don't know why I torture myself like this

You might use it for something one of these days pry bar ect.. It's one of those deals where if you would
of left it behind, you might be thinking down the road, that would of come in use right now. Dog gone it.

Torture yourself? You are supposed to be enjoying this hobby but I confess that sometimes I get depressed when I am not finding anything too. Still - you found something not many other people have found! WTG

Re: Don't know why I torture myself like this

Re: Don't know why I torture myself like this

Thanks for all of the replies. I was thinking that fellow Tneters didn't care to see rusty old iron. I know my ancestors logged the area I found this in the late 1860's. But that was before the rails were put in, in the 1880's. I'm always amazed to think that in these steep narrow hollows that log trains hauled logs out years ago. And I do occasionally find rails that were left behind.

Re: Don't know why I torture myself like this

I find lots of old spikes around the property. I guess they had a track running through here at one time or another. If you need some spikes to go with your puller let me know!

Re: Don't know why I torture myself like this

Nice find! (if you got room for all these type of finds.) Do you sell the iron?
Anyway, that is one cool, big, unusual find. Congratulations! You're going to need a building (not a display case) to show your stuff.

John987. I clean everything that I find with electrolysis and display most of the iron. I'm running out of room to build more shelves for displaying the items.

Re: Don't know why I torture myself like this

At least you weren't skunked. We all have days like that :-\

Re: Don't know why I torture myself like this

Looks like .." you've been working on the railroad......all the live long day".....but still a nice find.....

Re: Don't know why I torture myself like this

WOW! It's called a 'spike jack' by the railroaders here. (don't know if that is the 'proper' name - just what they call it here)

We found one last year, didn't know what it was. The museum did. (we donated it).

GREAT FIND!

JUST ANOTHER WAY TO PULL OUT NASTY IRON. I HATE NAILS AND THAT GETS RID OF BIG ONES. WILLY.

Re: Don't know why I torture myself like this

If you scrap it its worth about 5 dollars so it was a worth while find if you clean it or get rid of it :)
