found this near a cellar hole, close to what would have been the root cellar. Initial thought is it’s a handle to a door/drawer? Wilder thought is it might have been a trigger guard from a rifle? Any insight would be appreciated.

I have never seen a triggergaurd that long, not even on early firearms. Could be I guess, I haven't seen nearly everything in this old world.

My guess is that's the door handle to the entrance door of the cellar you found it at, maybe handcrafted in the farmers blacksmith shop.

seems unusual that the handle would allow for 2 fingers at most?

May be there were two. One on each door and a bar or board went through them to keep the door closed. (?)

Trigger guard. Likely military (at least originally) as the rectangular hole would be for a sling stud.

Thanks all for the input. Might explain the musket ball found in the same area.
