update
well we spent about 4 hours hitting this lake,
got dirty and found a bunch of clad nothing old and one Ring, i thought when i dug it it was a nickle but while looking at the clump of dirt in my hand i could see the edge of the so called nickle then notices it got skinnier on one side so befor i opend the clump of mud i took it over to show tvick25 i was showing her and she kept say open it open it it was like two kids in a candy store.
anyway heres the ring stamped sterling not very big but first silver ring for me so im happy.
i wont bore you with all the clad photos.

Of all the dream places I can think of to metal detect, a drained lake is at the top of the list. Good luck!

Re: Drained lake

Great post and digs :) We have a lake that is always full of campers for generations > the water level is pretty low and my friends and I have thought about driving up to hunt it > of course I am the only one with a detector ;)

Re: Drained lake

Fishing sinkers, haha! I'll bet you'll find a load more of those. Your going to find some good stuff too, its not often you get a chance to detect such a promising site. Good luck!

Should be some lures in there too ;D. Keep swinging got to be some $$$$ in there. Have the steelhead started to run at your place yet. the season is just about ready to kick in here in Ohio.

Re: Drained lake

Hit those drained lakes whenever you can. My hunting buddy "Julesjunk" and I have been working a drained down lake in eastern Kansas the past few weeks. Together we have dug over 1450 coins (honest truth). We have over 13 pounds of lead sinkers, 2 14k men's wedding bands and several silver rings, and bracelet's. 4 or 5 cell phones and enough lures and trolling motor props to start a store. About 50 pairs of sun glasses and a 16 pound boat anchor.
We have also found a few tokens and a metal tag we didn't really want. It was a body tag from a cremation and someone had poured the ashes and tag in the lake. That goes back into the lake the first chance we get.
I don't think we have even got a 10th of the coins out of there. Its a dirty muddy stinky job but it is fun.
Out of the over 1450 coins we have dug though, we have not found a single silver coin and only 2 or 3 wheat cents. Everyone has been a Memorial cent or clad. What are the odds ???
