Dug a nice boot pistol today (New photos of cleaned pistol added 11/29/11)

[creskol]

My son Jeremy, our friend Doug, and I were hunting an old house site today and dug a nice little boot pistol. Not sure what it is yet as we haven't cleaned it.

Re: Dug a nice boot pistol today (a couple of new photos posted)

Cleaning this little pistol has been a very slow process. It is close to being finished, so I will post some updated photos tomorrow.
As with many other relics found at this site, it appears as though this pistol has suffered extreme heat - fire damage.
It is pretty rough, and no markings are visible.

Not overly thrilled with the way this turned out, but it is what it is, and I am happy to have it.

Cool little firearm. It will be a nice conversation piece

[goverton]

Remember which way it was pointing?
Go back and walk that line, detecting all the way ....might be pointer to cache

Very cool for a 100+ year old pistol...You mentioned the pieces looked like they had been in a fire...Do you know if there was a house on the site that caught fire back in the 1800s?

HH,
